So, I am planning on ordering my P990i tommorow from Voda. Do you know if it will come with the fast and stable updated firmware or if I will need to update it?

Almost likely, without a shred of doubt, just as the moon follows the sun and that the sky is above, you will get the current Voda approved version neccesitating an update to the recent R9 thereafter.
Now, join the club....

I have an O2 SIM in a Voda P990i and it works fine, just getting some of the usual bugs that every P990i user has.
Only annoying branding is he splash screens and the hard coded voda internet account settings.
When the P900 was up-specced to become the P910, why can't we have a stable up-specced P910 called the P920 without this terrible symbian version?

It really annoys the hell out of me that we still can't get this firmware as voda users.

I have the same problem, but with O2.
We are all brothers-in-waiting in the minefield they call P990i

Ive just emailed vodafone requesting a date for this new firmware. My fone really needs an update to stop its memory leakage, its starting to grind on me now! I dont suppose I'll get a response from someone that knows anything about it. But watch this space!

thanks def_gen just about to take a look at that.....
Just had an email back from vodafone which reads
Thank you for contacting Vodafone Customer Service regarding the updated firmware of your Sony Ericsson P 990 phone.
To know about the updated firmware you need to contact the manufacturer i.e. Sony Ericsson.
You can contact them on +44 (0)8705 237 237 from Monday to Friday between 08:00 to 18:00 hours and on Saturday from 09:00 and 17:00 hours and they will be happy to help you.
Surprise Surprise.. the person on the other end hasnt got a clue. Ive just sent one back insisting my message goes to the correct person who may be able to answer my question and not just fob me off!

It's worse for me, I'm an O2 user who couldn't wait for O2 to get stock so am using a Voda handset, so I can get no handset support from O2 as I am not using their phone and no support from Voda as I have no account with them and all I get from the bloke at SE support is "ha ha yeah, a bloke here has a P990, says its a nightmare he he he"
I've had a J5, Z5, Z7, K750, K800, T610, P800, P900, P910, nine superb phones then this lump of dogpoo.
What disgusts me more is SE's absolute failure to acknowledge that the phone is completely usuless.
