@Dale_jeffs i thought u were from London, my bad

@goldenface it all depends how far you are from your local exchange, and i'm not far at all, less than a kilometer so i would say don't expect more than 10mb tbh

@haynesycop you cant get it, only sky TV customers can get it, and for the 16mb package its an extra £10, for the 8mb its £5.

so I'm thinking of moving down to the 8mb one as I'm not getting that much extra now I'm on the 16mb

if you get 9mb from a 16mb service, you'll get a throughput of about 5mb on the 8mb connection

Why do you say that?

When i was with ukonline on there 8mb service i got 7.5mb most of the time, well it definitely never dropped below 7

its down to 1. your ISP and 2. the distance between you and the exchange, and the traffic between the exchange and your ISP.

its a rough guesstimate, but let me know what your actual throughput is at peak and off-peak times

Well in the small print it says up to 16mb or 8mb.

I'll do a speed test when the 16mb has been installed tomorrow and downgrade and see what happens.

400 mtrs away I am.

it says "up to" because it depends on many factors. if you are lucky to be close to an exchange, and that exchange isnt already over loaded with people, your throuput speed should be close to the actual DSL speed.

of course as most know if you do a speedtest at 8pm at night, you'll get a different throughput than you would at 7am, as there is a lot less traffic....

@batesie

How close is close? Less than 1km? or less than 500mtrs. I guess I live in a built up area so I shouldn't expect much what with me being surrounded by businesses.

I'll find out tomorrow anyway.

Who had the fastest connection anyway, was it masseur?
