At £269 on a 18 month £35 per month contract it's not unreasonable to expect a device to incorp UMTS technology whether one is in the habit of using it or not!!

It is merely ANOTHER feature, and tbh it's not uncommon, sirocco!

It's no different to not having GPS or any other feature.

I could embarrass a great many people who swore blind that the UK version would have UMTS , anyone fool enough to buy an iphone will go down several degrees in my estimation i promise you!!

Well you can put me down in your book then haha

Like I said its one of those things really. I dont think any other device has eve had this much hype and despite its shortcomings it is a breakthrough device so much to the extent that Nokia have gone and ripped the design of but I dont think Steve Jobs will mind as he go there first.

You know what the funny thing is, after having an N95, N93i, P990, and a P1 in the last 7 or so months call it a step back if you like but im looking forward to it. The £269 doesnt really bother me as I would have forked out that for a ipod touch anyway.

Had I gone with the N95 8gb I would have had a capable device but still not one that can be be seriously used as PMP without battery problems. Music and Vidoes is my number one feature in phones and i defy anyone who claims any other device on the market can outmatch the iphone in that dept.

Until youve used one you wont know how good it is. I havent used an iphone but ive used an ipod touch so I have a good idea on what to expect and all I can say is out of all the phones ive ever used its very clear Apple have made something uber special here.

Until YOU have used one, how can you say it's "uber special"
Bottom line is, it's an ipod touch with an extremely basic communication element built in IMO.

I explained my reasoning earlier, this way i get to have the best of everything. Plus im tired of Nokia and SE, its the same devices every year with the same bugs with just some mroe features. I want a change and the iphone looks like the best thing out for a long time. It fits all my needs except for video recording but I carry a camera around now as I want quality pics whenever I want.

At the end of the day after all its critisims ive not heard many complaints regarding it and whats better is that even all the gadget magazines like stuff have really posative things to say about it.

If it can please them mweb im sure it can please me

UMTS is only useful for those in major cities, as the UMTS coverage in the UK is crap, therefore it is of no benefit to those who have no coverage.

Hence buying a phone with no UMTS, is surely not stupid?

Oh dear, another mis informed individual.

Time will tell if the lack of 3G will hurt the iphone sales in the UK. November isnt that far away. I better start hunting around for a decent screen protector.

Please take the time to inform me then. I have been in the mobile business for over 6 years, selling them for a Major Carrier, Working on them as an Engineer, and also Debranding/Unlocking, and selling them individually.

Please feel free to inform me of what exactly was misinformed about my statement. the UMTS coverage of the UK's Strongest network, namely Orange, is poor at best, the coverage is sporadic, and only covers major cities, hence the reason that all calculations are based on POPULATION COVERAGE, and not LAND COVERAGE.

However i am sure that with your vast knowledge, you can school me.

So please carry on.......
