PK
Will it have Quad band? I really won't beg to see the pics as they will come out sooner rather than later but the Quad band is important for me if I am to keep up with the P series. I travel a lot and right now my P990i is in Coconut Grove where there is 850mhz and no signal for me.

needs to make this a truly smartphone and include such a basic.

Ok, I can't keep it to myself any longer, I've actually been testing a prototype P5i since September. It's a pretty good phone, I mean there are some quibbles but I'll come back to those.

The Good:
HSDPA,
5MB camera,
Brilliant slider action,
keyboard,
UIQ - really improved.

Not sures:
Rusty nail jutting out of ear-piece.

The bad:
Battery not brilliant.

I've got to be honest, web browsing on this phone is superb, the UI is slick and fast, and the camera's excellent. I really would consider this as my next phone, but I know the price is going to be sky high. Also, the battery could be better - I mean it's reasonable, but not as good as some previous UIQ handsets. That, together with the tetanus, are probably the two main drawbacks.

Design wise, the phone looks great - slimmer than any previous P series - but the rusty nail does break up the line a little. I'm not sold on that; in fact I think it throws the ergonomics right out. I really enjoyed using the touchscreen and they've worked wonders with the keyboard, but when I tried to make a call for the first time it perforated my ear drum. This really spoiled the whole user experience for me, but obviously a lot of that is down to personal taste.

On the whole, a fantastic addition to the P series, and definitely worth waiting for. I had to give mine back, but I hope by its release in May/June time I'll be back in the market for one. I should have my hearing back by then.
