You're right it is very silly to compare the HTC devices or the P1i to the iPhone. The iPhone is not a business phone, nor has it ever been marketed as one.
All the devices that people keep comparing it to are business phones, the iPhone isn't a business phone at the end of the day, maybe in the future but at the moment it isn't.
This thread is pretty pointless isn't it really, comparing phones that are for 2 completely different markets.
Of course the iPhone isn't going to be the end of The P or X series business phones, it's not even in competition with those devices. At the end of the day the iPhone is a fun multimedia device, plays good quality videos, good quality music, has a fantastic web browsing experience, and is fun to use for your normal everyday person.
I personally think this thread should be locked as it is pointless.

Because as we know, Apple invented OpenGL ES, and has a monopoly on using it.

OpenGL ES is the official 3D graphics API in Symbian OS and Android, they're not Apple products.
Edit: And isn't it a royalty free open standard anyway?

I really love reading 'apple vs. orange' discussions like this and it's amazing how fast they grow and funny how similar they end, since other than the fact that such discussions never lead us to anywhere, they turn into personal attacks and/or insults and the topic gets locked.
Anyway, having used devices of all three platforms, all I can say is that even the 3G iphone with improved specs will never replace a P-series, let alone the upcoming X.
Come on guys, let's get realistic:
Iphone is apple and the rest is orange.

Yeah. There are about as many optimisation rules and techniques as there are vendors of chips, but the standard is open. So, for example, someone could make a 3d UI on an UIQ phone, or make a few elements accelerated. Unfortunately, to do that you need to basically write your own 3d engine from scratch, and there's no known way to really mix UIQ UI elements with "3d" accelerated maps in some predictable way, so..

OK let's tie this thread up:
The New 3G iPhone ! Is this the begining of the end for the SE P AND X series?
Answer: NO.
Reason: They are not competing for the same market.
Done, end of, finished, complete, and they all lived happily ever after, the end.

The X1 is a Windows Mobile device, not UIQ.
I know, and initially (in January or whenever it was) I was interested in it as a potential upgrade to my Tytn II later this year, but since then...
I think by the time the X1 is released someone like HTC etc will have already had a better phone out for a few months making the X1 outdated before it's released.
Exactly - it's already happened, the HTC Touch Pro is the natural successor to the Tytn II (current king of the WM market) and it'll be out literally any day now. It'll be far more affordable than the X1 (branded by all the networks) and is a far more practical proposition for anyone seriously wanting a high-spec, keyboarded WM phone in the near future. And of course there are other alternatives beginning to appear, and Windows Mobile 7 starting to loom on the horizon, and basically the X1 is yesterday's news. A lost opportunity, languishing in SE's usual development hell.

Hi all,
This iPhone is very expensive argument is complete rubbish you can get an 3G/HSDPA 8GB iPhone for £99 on a £35pm 18 month contarct that gives you 600 minutes and 500 texts with unlimited Data and WiFi.
Or for the same £35pm on a 18 month contract you can get a P1 that gives you 600 minutes and 1000 texts plus you change the free Bolt on to unlimited Web. But no WiFi so for the same monthly spend all you get is 500 extra texts or the same deal as this but £89 for a W960.
Which means the iPhone is a whole £99 more expensive over 18 months than a P1 but has free WiFi instead of 500 extra texts. Plus of course you would need to buy an 8GB M2 card for at least £30 making the iPhone a whole £69 more over 18 months. Then compare it with a W960 which is £89 and so the iPhone is just £10 more but with free WiFi so what's expensive now a W960 or an iPhone with 3.5" screen, HSDPA and a much faster processor.
So please some one explain just how the iPhone is so much more expensive then as sorry but that is nothing more than wishful thinking. Same as not realising that the iPhone is now gong to be very able to perform Business tasks. It may not be as good as a P1 but it most certainly is as good if not much better than the £10 cheaper no free WiFi W960.
Yet again it may not be right for you and if not don't buy it but this it's expensive and can't do certain things is an extremely weak argument now things have changed. That may of been true for the first iPhone but things have changed with the 3G version and the iPhone can indeed handle Business tasks.
Marc

No, sorry, it's just not that simple anymore. The Iphone is now priced like an SE smartphone (or less), and it now
is getting core business features built in, like document editing and Exchange sync. Like it or not it can, increasingly, be considered a tool for business, however it's marketed, and it will begin to encroach on that market. It may not be the typical Enterprise buyer's fleet purchase, but then let's face it - neither is anything from SE.
The Apple may well be an apple, but it tastes more like an orange than ever before...
