I remember the complaints well, and of course many of them stemmed from memory issues, but there were plenty directed at the interface too. The reviews were more than mixed, and even those who excused the crashes etc on "prototype firmware" still questioned the various quirks - tiny icons you couldn't easily press without a stylus, for example, a lack of multiple select in lists, the inexplicable loss of the 5-way jog dial which had been such a celebrated feature on the previous phones... it wasn't all about the memory, that just made for some particularly ugly headlines.

i´m just saying, much of the initial remarks regarding the UI changes would be forgoten...to this day many people swear the P990 with 128mb would be the ultimate business machine

@ares

It would have been a much better device, obviously, and many people (including myself) would've used it much longer, but 'the ultimate business machine' ?

That's a bit exaggerated imo

Have you checked the UIQ presentation at the Symbian Show ? It can be downloaded at UIQ.com news section. Instead of showing something new that might attract some other manufacturers they, made a mess about advantages of touchscreens, including screenshots from Nokia 5800 phonebook with S60 Touch interface !!!. This means 2 things:
1: they are really pathetic or
2: they are already working for the "dark side" read Nokia
My only hope for us the fans is that at some point they will make available the source code so that skilled enthusiasts may modify the OS as we want. Or in some part of the world somebody installs Windows mobile on the beautiful hardware of P1i.

That is unfortunate that incompetence and ignorance has killed that beautiful interface.

what if we all started buying the P1, G700/900, W960 then SE would see that their is still alot of current intrest in UIQ phones, and that they are making profit from it.
A big boost in sales of those devices might change their minds.

What you say guys?
