To those people wondering about getting an unlock code from O2 for the Iphone. That won't happen, as the phone is locked by Apple not by O2. So I don't know why people get on the case for O2 to unlock it, when its done by the manufacture. Any unlock code's for O2 mobiles that may be locked is always requested from the manufacture direct.

... and wouldn't you HAVE to pay a further/compulsory £10 per month to O2 for 12 months?

Or, once you've paid the price of the PAYG phone can you then just stick your middle finger up at O2 and not bother with the minimum payments p/m?

You can buy the phone on pay and go and just use your o2 pay monthly sim in it. I am planning on buying it on prepay not yet though, once I have saved up for it (which will take a while lol, cuz am in no rush) and then I will be putting my pay monthly sim in it.

You have an uncanny knack of contradicting yourself!

Regardless who locks the device be it Apple or O2 if it isn't subsidised as the 2G wasn't then it should not be locked down to a network, O2 are as much to blame for this as Apple.

agreed. even talking to O2 today about paying out my contract they said they still have no way to provide any kind of unlock code, and as far as they were aware, they have no plans to ever provide such codes for the iphone

so thats that

No mate there is no compulsory monthly topup payment when you get it on PAYG. You get 12 months free and then after that it's £10 a month to keep getting it. I called upO2 and confirmed this earlier.

"When you buy a new iPhone from us, we'll give you 12 months of unlimited web and Wi-Fi. It's called the O2 Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On, and you'll be able to keep it at the end of the 12 months for £10 a month if you like."
