although this started with strong intentions, the more it drags out the harder its going to be for a split.
its really decision time now and I do hope that Sony go their own way and that Ericsson stick with what they do best... networks etc

+1. The uncertainty of the 'will they or won't they' scenario can't be good for the venture. They need to look at the opportunity, look at what the potential gains are and run with it. People are hyper critical of Sony but mostly their designs are great, media integration is fantastic and the potential is there for something great.

The JV was a bad idea.
The moment it happend Ericsson was making big steps forward in terms of profit and market share.

not in the first place
sony as content provider and ericsson as a hardware provider, were an ideal partner on paper
but in the last years several business decisions just made it impossible for them to be successful

moving factories to china, getting rid of typical swedish design and concentrating on low end devices are just three of those decisions

On paper means nothing. We all knew that sony would push their on technology like MSD
Ericsson was free to chose whoever they want to work with. They had a deal with canon, they used MMC cards in their mp-3 player.
I said it was a bad idea back then, and i'm still saying it today.

I dont think that memory stick or m2 was the problem with Sony Ericsson. After all,in 2005-8,that they actively used memory stick, they had their best sales/profit,so there is no evidence that memory stick, was a reason failed. The main reason is that they were too late to jump into the smartphone race, and that they chose the wrong platform uiq/windows mobile/symbian.I hope now that they have found the right platform, they start delivering better user experiences.

To late for the smartphone race? They were ahead, but they guys at the head office chose to dump UIQ. If they would've pushed and tried to stay ahead of the market they would now be 2nd in terms of marketshare and UIQ would be as good or even better then Android 4.0
Choosing to play with WM was a bad idea aswell. But hey what do people like me know, what do the oldies of Esato know about the market and future hypes.

I dont think that should have stayed with uiq to begin with.Sony Ericsson's smartphones were always viewed as good speced phones, with limited apps compared to s60,and high-prices.I think that sony ericsson made a big mistake by purchasing uiq back in 2006.That was the time, that they should have abondoned symbian altogether, and started working on their own OS based on linux,so that they can use it on both non-touch and touchscreen based phones from 2008 and onwards.Back then, they had the money needed to do so.Unfortunatly,in 2008-2010, was developing in 5 different platforms simultaneously(uiq, windows 6.1/6.5,android,s60 touch,a200) and that proved to be a really bad strategy.
