Nokia 808 is for those who really want it. Either you'll love it or totally hate it.

If you have even a little bit of appreciation for engineering and innovation, there is no way you can hate this product. A lot of effort went into the project, and considering the unconventional direction they chose, results are quite admirable.
Just imagine setting a 100 Megapixel goal for a cell phone today ? Because 3-4 years ago, when they started working on this, 40+ megapixels in a phone probably sounded ridiculous. In fact, even in 2012 when they presented the phone in Barcelona, the crowed went silent after the number 41 megapixels was mentioned, ..

I really don't understand the interest of this phone (i'm very serious here no jokes)
People who like/love this symbian phone have you ever used a high end android phone or even a iphone ?
Yes, i own a Galaxy S3 and think its the best phone ever made. But as you may or may not know, i also own a Nokia N8 which has gone from Symbian 3, to Anna and now its running Belle.
Camera aside, i still think Symbian is second only to Android. In many ways, Symbian is still better. Thats my opinion because i know Symbian pretty much inside out and the amount of functionality it has over the other operating systems even now is obvious to me.
But, ive moved with the times also and wanted something with more of a lifespan therefore it was the right time to move. But, every now and then i still take my N8 with me to work or on days out for its camera or for functions like Nokia maps which is better than any Android navigation app.
Hell, id stick my neck out and say i prefer the fact my N8 is more stable than my Galaxy S3. Oh and predictive text is better on Symbian imo also.
If someone was to give me a 808, id love it !!!

This Message Will Exclusively For The Fan Boys
SONY And
SAMSUNG !!!
"There are inexpensive compact cameras that offer more photographer-friendly features than the 808, but as a cameraphone, the Nokia blows its competition out of the water, and significantly narrows the gap between dedicated cameras and portable communications devices to the point where ultimate convergence seems all but inevitable (and probably sooner than some commentators had realised).
The 808 proves that Nokia can innovate, and its PureView technology has piqued the interest of serious photographers, being one of the most important innovations - arguable the most important - in mobile photography since the smarphone era dawned five or so years ago. As such, the 808 is intriguing not just in itself, but because of what it represents. Things could be about to get interesting !"
P.S:
NOKIA 808 PUREVIEW THE KING OF CAMERAPHONES !!!

Said photographers, if they're also iPhone or Android phone owners, will be b!tching and moaning about the suckyness of Nokia Belle. They will still be carrying their old phones and keeping a second SIM card in the 808...
I am amazed by the 808's camera. But what Nokia did, was similar to the "camera-phone" featured in the
Flight of the Conchords...

Symbian 10.1 is fine..
the camera is amazing.. given, lots going on for it. But, for me, the most amazing part is that it manages to produce great quality in incredibly small file sizes. I guess the PureView algorithm really works, cleaning up the image from junk/noise, so you are left with.. detail.
460 kb @ 5Mpix.
it doesn't make any sense otherwise. In 5Mpix auto mode the files rearly exceed 1 mb. but quality is still great. I can't think of any other camera/phone .. whatever, that can achieve such results.
800 kb

The lesser amount of noise in 808 shots will make the JPEG files smaller, assuming of course that the 808 is very gentle in noise reduction like the N8.

At full resolution in my opinion n8 and 808 produce the same image quality even on pixel peep, however when the 808 is on its pureview mode, even at low light, almost all the junk, the noise are totally removed and that it produces a clean and ultra clear picture that even the n8 cannot come close. I dont have any idea though how that relates to filesize, do image noise beef up filesize too? Please enlighten me

To put it simply, JPEG compression works by eliminating similar details. Without noise, a cloud-free sky for example will be a uniform blue shade. With noise, you will have what looks like you had poured fine grained sugar over the photo. With low compression, these tiny speckles of noise details also need to be saved, bringing up the file size.
If you have a photo editor on your computer which has a noise effect, try adding this effect to a photo and save it before and after adding the noise as a JPEG with low compression to see the difference in file size.
