@JN - i tried upgrading a k700 just yesterday @semicon mega, they said R2e is their latest. besides that, they would have to keep the unit for 3-5 days since they would send it to semicon main for the flash. i called in semicon podiun and north edsa and they said the same. i guess it would be best if u had it upgraded over SESS since they have the R2L and u could w8 4 ur fone...

Both of them are K700 with chinese things in the keys, one is R2A and the other is R2L, I took it to SE center to flash and cost me $10. Both are in warranty!!. Nothing wrong will happend after flashing them. You can see the R2L is brighter!!.

Notice some problem with the R2L...
1. The pic caller id only works for the mobile number and not for other cat eg. work, home..
2. The call history ALL seems to have the sequence messed up...
I'm wondering if its my phone, the R2L or has it been like that the whole time... anybody have that problem too...?

c. The LCD dims off after 10 sec of playing video with no way of turning it on back to the "brighter" state... this wasn't there when i had the R2A.

may i ask which SE center you went to for the upgrade? btw are you from manila? my K700i also has chinese characters on the keypads but instead of Hong Kong I have Taiwan. so far the SE centers I've contacted in manila doesn't accept K700i with chinese characters on the keypads for upgrade. according to them sony ericsson phils doesn't support K700i purchased outside of the authorized dealers. in manila only SE authorized dealers and service centers can do upgrade on SE phones (i think...).

Following are the points being observed by me after upgrading to R2L firmware:
-Improved Display. Infact a lot of improvement in display, much more bright and clear then ever before.
-If using any profile other than Normal, no need of unlocking the keypad for reading/replying messages. The keypad unlocks itself when u recieve any message and after u have done it goes back to its previous lock state.
-Battery life has improved a lot and the battery indicator bug is fixed now.
-Menu Navigation is much much more faster then before.
-The font of Operator logo is a bit large now and the font of Date & time has been Slightly reduced. but it looks great.
-You can now see the time of a particular miss call.
-games run much smoothly now.
-Video playback is smooth then before.
-I have notice a slight increase in volume of speaker also.
-No more restarts, no more phone stuckup problems have been faced by me till now.
-Mp3's are being filtered by the s/w with much more perfection now. I can clearly sence the improved sound quality.
-Full screen display of slide show.
-Now u can actually see the folder Hierarchy graphically i mean for the custom folders u have created.
-No more Ding sound while transferring the data to your phone via IR or BT. But while taking snapshots the click sound of camera is loud, I whish if they would have given us the option to mute this sound.
-IR and BT both turned off by itself after 4 min of inactivity.
-The back light fades out much faster. I think this is for saving the battery power.
There are few more points which I have to checkout like Sync with outlook and continue usage of java games.....etc.
I will post the result later.

i got mine updated to R2l, (india), while playing tennis i was amazed to see the speed improvement( damn the games is too fast now , i keep loosing ), more improvements will come to light as i keep using the phone.
ya i also lost the shortcuts, but rest of all my data was there , what a releif.

about the ding sound in IR transfer it's still here!
I talked with SE today,it seems that another FW will come out next week wich will finally repair the missed files (or corrupted) that some people noticed in tennis game or camera frames...
