yes, they are the same operating system and so yes, you can use the same software. Indeed I use the same software on my iPAQ 4700 as I do on my JAM.
I wouldn't buy an XDA II mini because they are branded and I wouldn't have a clue where to get a Dopod so thats why I chose the i-mate JAM

Hello Guys,
I need help with my Jam. I'm not sure if i'm in the correct forum but I just would like assistance in setting up my Jam's GPRS/MMS for Smart Telecoms in the Philippines. I have used the Jam for a week here in KSA and I have already sent it to my wife as a Valentines gift in the Philippines. Smart Wireless center could not help me out when my wife approached them. Hoping somebody in here would be able to help me out. Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
GB

the i-mate JAM support page is
here (you'll need to sign up) and on that page is a CAB file download with operator settings.
I would try that first as I have heard that it has very good worldwide coverage for these settings

@masseur
Who's retailing i mate in uk? I thought xda II is the 'original' product. Would u buy Dopod if its available in UK? I can buy one in China if you wishes. How much is i mate compare to Xda? Xda II mini is selling at RM2,688 inc. a 256mb memory card.

Expansys was the UK launch customer for the i-mate JAM and I got mine the first day they had them
edit: xda II mini is an o2 branded phone which has only recently become available in UK

So far so good? Any hick-up? Any problem such as 'hang'? Would you recommend it to anyone who wish to upgrade to pda? I can't get i mate here. Only Xda II mini.

I have not experienced any hangs but I have experience one problem once which was a bit annoying.
I fly from germany to UK and back each week and so put it into flight mode when on board.
btw as a side topic, flight mode is the only way to power off the phone part as powering off using the power switch only turns off the pda part. this is different to the P900/P910/Nokia communicators etc where the power switch turns everything off
anyway, I landed back in Germany one day and clicked to turn off flight mode (i.e. turn the phone part on) and it wouldn't do anything so I had to soft reset the device to get myphone conection back
apart from that its worked as reliably as my iPAQ and I would recommend the JAM to anyone.
before this I tried the i-mate SP3i for a month or so and found that to be a good product too so I think i-mate have a customer here for quite a while, especially if they bring out an unbranded version of the new
MDA IV
edit: @Bumalabs, most operators have some setup guide for PDA or laptops so I usually just find those details and enter them manually. I rarely use these automated settings anyway. if they don't have a web page with that info hopefully you can just ask them to tell you what you need

@massur
That doesn't seem to me a big concern. Thanks.
