At first humans or whatever the prehistoric term was only thought about the now and then e.g. food, reproduce.
But as our brains evolved we got smarter and could think ahead.

So the cave man were stupid, maybe to us now, but they were smart back then!

Intelligence is not defined by such things as technology and humanity isn't really anymore intelligent than it was ten thousand years ago. We may have learned more about the world and increased our knowledge, but out actual intelligence would seem to be the same as that displayed by our anscestors.

@joebmc

There is some evidence to suggest that cavemen did use ritual and that that may have had a religious aspect to it. However, there isn't enough evidence to tell us what their actual beliefs were. It is likely though that they practiced some form of nature worhsip as a means to explain natural phenomena and to being good fortune upon themselves.

You cant compare todays zulus to caveman (thats just wrong).

So way are humans the only animals who show belief in higher beings?

Therefor much more advance than caveman (could say more evolved) and caveman could'nt speak as there adams apple (dont know the real term) were'nt evolved enough to speak as vocal as us today, all they could do was make kinda grunting noises similar to todays apes.

@joe

I am not quite sure what you are meaning here. Do you mean a species of human other than ourselves? As far as I am aware Homo Sapiens Sapiens have always been able to speak.
