and I guess if you brought your handset over to the uk then it would work via GPRS, 3.5G etc on them bands?

crazy really why they need certain bands for handsets to work they should use one for all

Hi Miss UK

That is one of the strange things about GSM which was meant to mean Global Standard for Mobiles but then didn't as everyone couldn't agree to one standard. So we ended up with the fragmentation we see, now stupid springs to mind.

Marc

With GSM/GPRS/EDGE on 850/1900mhz here in North America (South America & Australia inlc) nope if a non-quad band GSM phone goes to Europe/Asia it will NOT work . However I cannot think of any that fit this (a few Samsung phones cannot work here at all).

However, Using an SE W810i would work for GSM/GPRS/EDGE here as well as where you live. The SE w610i would work for GSM/GPRS but NOT 3G over here. Nokia N95-4 would work for GSM/GPRS/EDGE globally but 3G will NOT work where you live; but WILL work for 3G in my country - Canada.

Really messed up isn't it? And now that 3G chips are going Tri-band & Quadband (blam USA for their spectrum shortages on auction 3yrs ago; leaving T-Mobile USA on 1700/2100Mhz; 2100mhz NOT the same range as Euro phones ), we go through this ALL OVER again when LTE starts going live. lol.

Today at the launch in South Africa, Nokia stated in a press release that the Nokia N96 will ship to South Africa with the latest Transformers movie embedded in the devices’ memory.

This is expected to happen to other countries in the world, if not all. Henri Mattila gave a presentation on the upcoming N78, N96 and N82 Black and gave us detailed and exclusive information on the most advanced NSeries devices to date.

Stay tuned as we publish our interview with Mattila and reveal the official Nokia shipping date. Today was the final media release for South Africa, with other countries to follow. Everything is now public, no more to hide about these phones, we have hands-on comparison photos and ran tests on the N96 and N78. I couldn’t be more surprised by the N78’s User Interface, of which I will talk about it following posts.

lol certainley is!

I think i'll leave my phone at home if abroad anyway,
I don't wanna get huge roaming charge

or prob just buy a Prepaid sim out there.
I wanna go to New York at somepoint of my life,

but ive got other plans for now as we all do

Boba, did the latest fw change the internet side of the phone?
cos my Vodafone Internet connection has stopped working and I can't get it to work even though I went into 2 shops yesterday!

Vodafone live works though and the woman told me that loads the internet pages too so looks like ive got the 2 working within one connection :?

Hi
I just bought my 1st Nokia phone (N95) and I have some questions:

-How I check my firmware version?
-What is the latest firmware for N95?
-If I it doesnt have the latest firmware, How I upgrade it to the latest?

I m a Newbie On Nokia, (only used Sony Ericsson before)

Thanks
