@Alvin
Integrating the under screen FPS was always an idea but would have been detrimental for the screen quality, the side FPS is the easy option because its been used before so no R&D required for the moment.

The XZ4 looked sort of like the renders but not quite as perfect. I do remember XZ2 size bezels so that's why I'm sceptical but things can change quickly. With big bezels you would get front facing speakers but it depends on how much bezel is trimmed. The dynamic vibration was still there in what I saw but sacrificing that would help in other ways. A XZ4 Compact prototype looked like a more rectangular XZ2 so it was surprising to see such a retro looking render. I expect it to be around 11mm thick but the STB ratio should around 75% or more. I'm not expecting the ultra tall display but 18:9 and probably LCD. If they change screen supplier then perhaps OLED but I'm not holding my breath. Again, there are all sorts of very rough prototypes out there, a common thing is to take the previous model and fiddle around with the body and so on so maybe that is what I saw. If I saw something just like the renders then I would have said. I know that some people will be getting their early access devices very soon if they haven't got their already.

are you saying XZ4's bezel could be as thick as XZ2?

@RacSony

I'm saying that if it has front facing stereo speakers then it is likely to have XZ2/XZ3 looking bezels but if the speaker is on the bottom then probably smaller bezels. Another question mark is if it has curved side screen on totally flat.

Seems like Xperia get lost recently. Keep changing the phone before the day of release.

Look at XZ2P, they even change their mind right before the press conference. And the XZ4, keep modifying after the CAD had been send out to the case maker. Can't they be more confident of their products? Or someone can control.

I think it's likely that prototypes that badassmam saw didn't include the one from onleaks rendering.

And I suppose there are another designs that you saw but has different design language to the leaked xz4? @badassmam

XZ2 Premium was a software issue that delayed release more than design, that killed the phone even if hardware issues were there. Regarding case makers, they are given the dimensions and port hole locations but they don't actually know exactly what the device looks like unless you have a big company that signs the NDA. A lot of these shoddy case manufacturers put poorly photoshopped designs but actually, they probably have little idea of what's going on.

@Alvin
First you usually take the previous model and use it as a base to test your new hardware then you switch certain things. The alternative is that you get a new component like a new screen with odd aspect ratio or notch or whatever, then you design around it. XZ3 was a bit of both, took the existing XZ2 design and adjusted it for the OLED screen so the FPS position didn't change at all but it got thinner and taller. What I saw is meaningless basically. Given that ambient flow should be gone, I expect the design to exceed the XZ3 meaning that bezels should not be bigger, it should not be thicker, battery should not be smaller etc. The same applies to the Compact unless it is going mid range but I don't believe that because the XA3 is a mid range.

The difference in weight and dimensions of xz2 and xz3 is very significant

I hope the new model is in line with flagships of today and not in usual sony territory

badassmam,

do you know anything about device name?

Well at least we knew a little bit about something this year, not truly blind like last year and ended up with what XZ2 truly is.
