Interesting that HandHeld Twilight mode is not in the manual anywhere? Maybe that's why nobody is testing it out for low-light photos..

actually the manual does not explain any of the different scene types for some reason. weird. i _am_ very happy to see that you can now add FLICKR albums to your "MY ALBUMS!" much better than having to switch over to flickr app to view them

@aurelius.. can you give HHT mode a shot and see how it does? I know you're not a pro but that's exactly why it'd be perfect for you to test it

Z1 vs L1020 as tested by a pro photog

looks like the firmware really needs some updating. the daylight landscape photo is simply awful. it's nothing like the ones xperiablog.net posted for the samples with the latest firmware.

i was hoping that with a pro photographer doing the test, he would try to make the most out of the camera and not just compare them side by side according to settings. we all know how superior 1020's specs are so what we want to know is how the camera capabilities of both can be maximized. i was expecting the pro to try figuring out the best settings when going manual. but then again, something seems wrong with the software. he said the camera decides on its own even when he chose settings. i'm ignorant with cameras so i don't really understand how his situation was going.

You don't know the firmware version he was using! Also, saying those pics were awful is way overblown. He also states that it's probably the best Android out there.

i'm sorry but that's my opinion. correction: i said "IS AWFUL." i was referring to a particular photo. it's a daylight shot and it's very noisy. it's nothing similar to the ones posted on xperiablog. maybe i'm just expecting too much but that landscape photo was so washed out. but who knows, it could be the desert sands and dusts floating.

i really hope someone here with photography skills can test the unit and show that it can really take photos better than what that guy was able to take.
Youor opinion is obsolete! I'm soo tired of people trying to be pros of cameras! Tell me your background, give me your professional opinion about those pictures. This thread is really annoying, kids trying to be pros on pretty much anything these days!

BTW, have the Z1 for around 2 weeks - loved it so far! Screen much better than Z, close to ZU. Speedy like nothing Sony has released earlier, running 14.1.B.1.532 firmware which I believe is the latest one. Will try to use the cam as much as I can but I'm not really a photographer and won't pretend to either but it feels fast and accurat so far!

I'm so tired of people in this thread trying to be pros, just stop it! If you haven't used the phone - just leave it that way and comment when you actually tried it.

Peace out!

oh sorry if i have an opinion. when did i say i am a pro? i even mentioned i know nothing. all i know is i don't like what i saw with that one photo and others. don't get worked up! please learn to read comments thoroughly. i said that because i've seen better samples. i was saying something could be wrong with the software or that pro photographer may have not been doing the best of what manual settings could actually do because his resulting photos were worse than what the initial auto samples they did looked like. read read read. understand the comment thoroughly before letting that diehard sony fanboy in you cloud your brain like that hazy daylight sample photo.

Look I know you are trying to add to the discussion and have every right to voice your opinions. But as you stated in the above post, you are not quite an authoritative figure in the judgement of photographs. That being said, your posts suggest an absolute voice, an authority that you cannot command. Instead of your posts implying that you were dissatisfied with the image in your opinion, it comes across as a final judgement on the matter.

Also who knows why the 'one' photo you saw did not come out as good. Could be the firmware, the settings used, the capability of the photographer, and myriad of other things. The fact is the camera has so far proven itself to be the best in the Android business, and can match 1020 in certain conditions. Even if the software can (and probably will) be tweaked a bit for better photos, the fact remains, Sony has put an amazing sensor, lens combo and its true potential probably hasn't even been realized yet.

precisely what i was saying. don't people here know how to understand what they're reading? you just repeated my points and now you're coming up with a comment that seems to my contend with my arguments. read the posts completely please. there're those parts that state my opinion and there're also those parts that qualify my opinion. many here seem agitated every time something not so favorable is said about sony without reading the full post.

i don't think so. anyone can say something and nobody here has the obligation to think of it as an authoritative voice. why don't you say that to that member who said my opinion is obsolete?

wew...instances like this make you less proud being a sony fan...being one in a group marred by some irrational people.

The one who started spreading that the Z1 uses the leftovers panels from the Z and ZL is total bullshit.
I can confirm no such thing occurred.
Practically, if you think about it, how Triluminos works is by emitting a blue LED light into this quantum dots of reds and greens.
Conventional LCD screens like the one that canes with the Z have its white LED shine past the RGB panel.
So if that donkey "source" is correct, Sony have to tear open the leftovers, modify the existing panel for it to be compatible for the blue LED.
It's simply not practical, or perhaps, pure stupidity.

Is it just me or the Z1 has better display than the Ultra? Z1 has better whites while Ultra is more yellowish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBS_XDtYXlc skip to 2:31 to see screen comparison. Z ultra is more saturated
