Am thinking of updating via Wotan. What exactly needs to be backed up? I am assuming Contacts, Messages, Apps&Games, Wap Settings..anything else?

Just a follow up...
Bought a credit via Wotanserver (will keep it for a rainy day!) and downloaded the latest client. Wotan detects that the EROM is out of date and prompts you to update it, which took all of 10 seconds. Job done.
Nothing has been over-written by the process and boot up did seem a fraction faster from what I could see.
** Glad that it worked fine for you **
@aremaboy
SEUS doesnt have 1 type of phone that it updates, also SE wouldnt allow you to pick and choose what firmware you place on the phone.
For Example, You purchased a Voda Branded K800 and then was allowed to debrand for free. So Voda would prob take action agenst it and all hell would brake loose.
Next point is that people like to know that they press C and plug it in, thats it. They dont want to press 2 and 5, removed the battery do this do that (They may have to eventualy tho)
SEUS trys to to cope with every type of person. Some feel comfortable to use it, Some like to make sure first, they want simplicaty not to click here, choose this, enable this, clear this etc.
Regarding the FOTA. This currenlty wont update the firmware or the EROM. The phone would currenlty not accept the EROM over the air correctly, Again this is something SE is looking at but dont expect a fix soon.
Hope this answers the question
@mrwoll
You have to back up everything, When using wotan server it rewrites the software - So it looks like you have a new phone.
SEUS only rewrites part of the software (The Bugs)
The only thing that will not change is the security code in the phone and the Sim Lock (If the phone is locked to a network)

Happened to find a bug that occasionally pops up on R1ED:
Sometimes the menu items or selections anywhere become some memory allocation address sort of thing.
For example, "Messaging" turns into F4:xxxx, or the "Delete" selection turns into "F4:2xxx". This pattern applies to all texts.

bronxdude,
1. Download the Wotan Client. Then follow the instructions.
2. See #1.

The only place you can download is at Wotan Server (there are others however this is the easiest to use), taking the phone to a SE service center or sending of to a service center.
SEUS is currenlty not able to update the phone and erom and SE are working on a fix.
** However, If you dont have a fault with the phone and dont feel confident in using Wotan server then leave the phone as it is for the time being. **
Hope this helps.

I take it you cannot reproduce this every time? I've never seen that happen on mine. Might keep a look out for it though but it might be down to a bad flash!

It has occured several times. I cannot reproduce it with a sequence of defined keypresses that I do on the phone. It is just random. The flash was successful and Wotan did not pop up with any error reports. EROM is also up to date. Perhaps it is only my unit, but keep an eye for those "F4:xxxx" things.

Changes in firmware that I have noticed.
Phone operates much faster
for example
-scrolling through phonebook is way faster, even from marking and sending
multiple contacts
-Message mailbox alot faster no more lag scrolling through messages
-Faster to access files in filemanager
-Building thumbnails
MMS menu redesign
Bt connection seems more stable
Memory management seems to be improved
Battery management seems better
Joystick does not wake up screen anymore
new clock layout
Reception is not as choppy as before (bars are still a bit pessimistic still)
seems to be one of the most signifigant updates i've seen by se since the t616 and R1B
