But is it

launcher which lags or custom one?
Bad software can be also a reason.
I ask because as I mentioned my X S after 400 hours is still like after reboot.
Well now everything is back to factory default settings so I'm using Timescape again, although the other launchers I tried before also lag. It's just not a smooth experience, browsing the internet and scrolling through menus.
Connect to the pc companion and re install the firmware, that should solve it, if not then i think you will have to get it exchanged..

All reviews are very positive about the S, I would say more so than the Arc. Maybe this shows Sony are doing things right.
Main sticking point seems to be no ICS at launch.

I tried reinstalling the firmware via PC Companion but the phone still lags. So literally nobody here knows what I'm talking about? You haven't noticed even the slightest bit of roughness in scrolling and animations in the UI? Cause I don't want to send this back only to get another one which is just as bad. Perhaps this is just the way the phone is and you people are better at putting up with it than I.

@congaeels
How much free phone memory have you got? Do you have lots left?

My SX S started lagging today while playing mp3 thru loudspeaker and (at the same time) doing other stuff like scrolling thru pictures and menus...

Nice little review from Jonathan Morris
here. Says he's not 100% for the see-through element of the design.

25GB of space left. Again I factory resetted / re-installed the firmware twice so this is with a clean slate. No music on the device, a few apps that come installed by default and that's it.
A few people on Youtube and other forums have mentioned the lag, but others report speedy performance so I'm not sure what's going on. Most people seem satisifed with their phone but perhaps they're expecting less than I was, coming from an iPad 2 which, despite being lower-spec, still runs much cleaner and smoother. Or maybe I genuinely have a dodgy model.

The iPad2 is not lower spec, its GPU remains the best in dual-cores, far more powerful than the Xperia S's GPU, you won't get the same type of smooth performance as in your iPad2 even if you get a new XSm but it does sound like yours is faulty, get it replaced, but as I've said don't expect iPad2 type performance, iOS is a lot more limited in background processing, put that together with its incredibly powerful GPU and you've got one sleek and fast device.

@congaeels,
If you check out the videos of xperia s, do you find yours to perform similarly? OR worse than them? If its like the videos on youtube then yours is good and you probably are seeing the lag. Otherwise there could be a problem with your handset, which my guess would be due to the embedded memory..In that case getting it exchanged would be the only option.
