Jumped back a few pages and found this post:
Perhaps installing the generic firmware will rectify my problem? I can't figure out how to go about this though - I downloaded the *.ftf file in the above thread but am not sure what to do next. Kind of a noob to this stuff. Would appreciate any help.
EDIt: I just watched a couple videos of the Xperia S on Youtube and maybe I'm seeing things but they seem to have the lag as well. I guess it's possible that this is just how the phone is, kind of unresponsive by nature. But what surprises me is that more people aren't taking note of the roughness. Is this something people are used to, something that happens across the board with Android phones or something? Am I asking for too much?

I wouldn't say so. The memory management gets better with every update. My XPLAY has a fraction of the memory your XS has but runs butter smooth. I'm using Advanced Task Killer though, which gave some improvement, even though some advise against it. ICS should bring more improvements.

I don't know, maybe you're just obsessed.
My phone is smooth and shows significant improvement over Arc which was also great.
I feel the device runing stable, stutter free etc.
And X S by nature is VERY RESPONSIVE.
There is also different tolerance between people regarding UI stuttering.
But even if those things happen rarely on any device including iOS, they are not any problem.
But X S is definitely not lagging in any way. Arc wasn't either.
I for instance like smooth UI but will not kill for it if it's fast and has desired features.
That's why I dumped WP7 which was so smooth but so limited.

I guess you will have to either wait for ice cream sandwich? or if the lag is really bothersome then return it.. I too noticed it to stutter, although it was pretty good for most of the part.. Also since the phone is new, it takes a while for it to work efficiently..

I've got a few issues about my Xperia S, firstly the battery cover is slightly loose so ever so slightly can me moved up and down not that big of an issue but does make it feel less premium. When plugging headphones in it seems to require a quite firm push. Also on the camera it seems to constantly go crazily out of focus and you have to manually reset it to normal but I can see this being a problem in video mode. Anyone else got these issues?

Play a mp3 file and try go in out the web browser or menu and generally do other things while the music is playing. At least when you have it at speaker mode it lags and stutter a bit. It is really annoying.

Not that most of you Europeans care ... but Sony has FINALLY announced an official Xperia S launch date for us Canadians/United States Citizens. It'll be available in SOny Stores on both sides of the border on April 17th!
Now I need to consider between Xperia S or Xperia ION (waiting for it with just ICS 3 button layout). Or I can go with an LG Optimus LTE (2nd attempt ... i only gave it a half week try before selling it).
I'm curious - and this maybe NOT the thread for this - but does your investment in applications for your preferred mobile OS affect you from migrating to the competition should the hardware performance/specs or overall design suit you better?! I ask this because I have about $40 in application investments (not to mention my developer license which will ONLY get use first week in May for training) with iOS. Maybe the polish of the applications - my humble opinion here - on iOS seems to be better (if not as powerful) vs Android. The latest camera app crossover for Android seems to be nullifying that perception though.
what say you?
