Here a small screen comparison between Z and Note II.
Both screens set to 100% brightness. The screen of the Z is definately brighter...

Don't get a shock when you look at the pictures with the extreme viewing angles. In real it doesnt look so bad. If you was happy with Xperia S, ION, T,... then you will be happy with Z too.
When I look direct to the Z and Note II, then Z win for me. The only thing what Note II has better, is the real black! Dark Black. When I look to Z it looks like grey, unfortunately. This is the only contra point. But videos on the Z looking amazing!

My first experiences with Z:

As I said before, phone quality is really nice. Feels great in hands. You can hold it very good. Better than S3 and much better than Note II of course! The Z has won already design award for this year IMO.

The screen is big and colourful, but it lacks on black. Black looks like dark grey.
But watching videos on the Z makes a lot fun! Colours are amazing!! Thx to BraviaEngineII.

The loudspeaker is okay, it's loud enough I think. To be honest, I thought before it's worse.
My Arc has double volume, same for Note II.

The Cam dissapointed me at the moment. I shot pictures in the dark but the results are a desaster...
I try tomorrow again.

When I got the Z it was 60% battery full at afternoon. I have played a lot withit...
After 3,5h screen on, phone need to recharge.
I played around 6h with the Z but with breaks and brightness was always higher than middle.
Let's see next days what I can reach.

The callquality so far is good.

Think most smartphones with Quad or Dual core inside is gonna heat up a little bit. That heat has to go somewhere. I would be worried if it got so hot you could cook your bacon & eggs on it though

I have found out to my annoyance that

UK get nothing unless you pre-order and get some seriously cool headphones

France get the dock

Germany get the dock and smart tags

ASDA deal is quite confusing. Not sure if it is for all or just ASDA and a few select retailers.

All very confusing can someone help shed some light on this.

By the way the viewing angle photos look much worse than the 5 units I have played around with, but speaker volume is not as loud as I am used to.

Would love to know what phone call performance is on the move. IE driving around and going through areas of poor reception etc. My iPhone 4S isn't very good so I hope this phone is better.

Sorry must correct my post from above.

After using Z in the dark the screen looks horrible.
It looks all so greyish, milky, looses colours fast, when I tilt over a bit.
My Arc seems to have better viewing angles. I can't imagine that my old ION was so bad...
Still, watching videos and so is great, but it's not perfect FullHD WOW Effect...
Can't understand how SONY can put such panel in it's best device...

I have no such problem what you have, very strange indeed.
I think you phone has a faulty screen, some Xz has very good display and some has very bad, how can that be?
Mebay you should contact Sony for this matter.

1. Hey James, have you tried setting the screen brightness to 50 percent and compare the black and brightness? The black might look a lot better now because on Japanese video I saw real black screen. Think Sony just wanted to us their brightness by a higher percentage .

2. Try using the camera in night mode, set phone to a sturdy area and shoot. Even dslr pictures get super noisy under high iso when taken at night.

3. Can you post photos taken with stabilizer turned on and off of the same place? I think it will be the same as other Sony phones, the one taken with stabilizer off will be sharper and lesser noise.

Thanks!
