If its 1/2.3 cut into 20Mpix... that's a shame

I was really looking forward to this.. I was hoping for a more "classic" approach instead of this crazy oversampling stuff Nokia is doing. Just old school fat pixels with good optics.. maybe one day.
1/2.3 @ 20mpix would probably yield 1.1 micron pixels... doesn't really stand a chance against the 808's IQ .. no matter what they do in terms of jpeg processing.

i thought it was already confirmed that 1020 uses toshiba sensor? plus wasn't there news way back earlier this year that said sony would no longer allow mobile manufacturers to use their camera sensors anymore?
I asked Juha Alakarhu on twtter and he said that they still haven't decided to communicate who made the sensor for the 1020... so if it was Toshiba, just like the 808, why not share that information ? Everyone knows that they are working with them..

Moreover pixel count of honami's sensor isn't 20."4" mpx!!! The last digit is something else !
Even the aperture is indeed f2 not f2.2
Total effective sensor resolution is 20.65MPixels (5248*3936) so I think he's spot on there, but as I said before max aperture is F2/F2.0, perhaps the F2.2 that he mentioned could be the result of a possible presence of a variable lens aperture, we don't know for sure.

I think honami will be good but the real excitement will be the phone after honami.
Looking at the last few years Sony have set the tone for the whole year with their announcements at CES and MWC. This has become the time for them to change a design style and set the feeling for all the handsets that year. Take this for example, the theme is omnibalance, 2011 was 'arc design', 2012 was split between the NXT and Arc because the arc design proved so much more popular.
Every year the lead handset that sets the tone is released in March and an updated version is released in Q3. Usually the updated version is just that, an update, not an entirely new 'groundbreaking' device (again looking at Arc/Arc S and every year going back to K800/810, W800/850 maybe earlier I don't remember).
For these reasons I'm not expecting honami to be more than 'Z 2' or 'Z S800' as Eldar described. It will essentially be an update. The real next big hitter will be early next year. Just my prediction.

@Ricky D
Wasn't it already 'confirmed' that Honami's successor won't come somewhere around S5 announcement? Sony is supposed to change their tactics and release only 1 flagship model a year and not like now 1H flagship and then 2H flagship.

All this talk of the Honami's successor seems to be putting a downer on how [good] the Honami will be

Surely the Honami will be a great phone nonetheless though. Besides the [much hyped] camera it will utilise the Qualcomm S800 processor which as well as being really powerful, will also make better/less hungry use of battery life. I do not share any negative [oriented] views that others have started posting. I for one think that the Honami will be a really great phone

totally agreed Nightwing
I just keep believing that Honami will be awesome. I mainly care the whole package.
Best quadcore CPU and GPU available now, with high camera specs, high quality material (glass+metal), sexy omni-balance design, while maintaining a non-phablet (which is ZU). Basically, a smaller ZU will be even almost perfect for me, let alone Honami will be better in many aspects than ZU~

So far in this thread we have been just following the rumors and post random stuff. I think it's time for us to make a change. Sony has many many fans around the world with great ideas that can be used in their phones. I think it would be a good idea to make a thread or website dedicated to our ideas. @ramu you have done a good job of managing the thread so I ask you to contact Xperia blog and other places which Xperia has a fan base to form this. If we try hard enough we would be able to get Sony to listen to our ideas.
Considering the hardware has to do more with technology rather than ideas, we would be better think of software features. I think Aurelius works in Sony mobile's software department so he would be able to inform the developers in Sony to pay attention to us or tell us what to do to get their attention.
Anyone with me?

Our ideas seem to amount to having; the most powerful SoC; the best camera (apparently some want; rather preposterously, interchangeable lenses); the biggest battery; the best design; xenon flash; LED video light; the best battery life; the best screen; the best software and so on, and so forth.

There's a major misconceptions about the phone. People should think it as a smartphone with a great camera and not cameraphone with smart features. Totally different.

^ If you try more you can think of other things eg. what I can think of right now is resizable and moving keyboard.
I don't mean the features like smart features on Galaxies but like the transparent navigation bar. I mean the features that improve UI and user experiance. The rumored notification system on Moto X is also awesome.
