@ michi - again, there's nothing wrong with the chipset. The NAND memory they've used doesn't allow execute in place, it's true - but it's faster than the memory which does, and can be made to perform just as well, if not better. It's also cheaper, which - let's not forget - helps to make the phones affordable. Nokia made exactly the same choice for their hardware, and that's not a coincidence.
The problem is inefficient, non-optimised, buggy and resource-hogging software. Fix that, and the "memory problem" is solved instantly.

I like the way you think Boinng

Lets hope SE is putting the necessary resources for optimizing the P990 fw

Reliable source on french forum (said right away we would have nothing on week 48) also confirms we won't have any update this year.

Good news!!! adnhk got this in an email response from SE:
Quote:Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Call Center.
With regards to your inquiry, we would like to thank you for your understanding and patience with us . The R & D team have worked round the clock to provide solution for you . For the phone operating aspect ,"In certain conditions there is a small risk that the system runs out of memory. The next maintenance release MR2 (planned for the beginning of January) will have more available memory witch will minimize this risk. The current workaround, if this problem occurs, is to close some applications by the Task Manager" We will like to thank you for your support and understanding .
So this confirms the week 48 release was delayed to the beggining of 2007, but the better part is that they say the new release will give us more available memory!!! The "small risk" thing is funny though lol
I think more available memory + new version of opera + some other bugfixes will make the P990 improve ALOT
