I've seen the pics and specs from the Sony site and I'm mega disappointed. Why, why why is the P990 going to have a built in keyboard and a much smaller screen because of it?
One of the reasons why I love my P900 so much is because the screen is nice and big and you can actually use the screen properly for multimedia and handwriting. What is the point of having an upgraded camera and better internet access / email if you can't see the bloody thing! I would have thought SE would have realised from all the critisism there was when the P910 came out that users DO NOT want a small crappy keyboard. Unless you've got fingers the size of matchsticks it's a complete waste of space, and so much slower than just writing on the screen. I just don't get it.
Also I am very disappointed that SE have decided to give users only 80MB of built in memory. Again, what is the point of having an otherwise really high spec phone, but not enough room on it to store more than a handful of MP3's / decent 2 meg photos / programs??? OK, so you can get an external memory stick if you want, but that'll cost yet MORE money on top, as the 64MB one they are going to supply ain't worth Jack Shit. I was really looking forward to the new P990, and have been patiently waiting for over two years to upgrade my P900 - all for nothing.
I never thought I'd say this, but I'm so disappointed I think I'll now go buy an Xda instead.....

@EricGerbil: The screen is not that much shorter. The screen is a bit shorter but a bit wider thus giving you the illusion that it is much shorter.
Also if you compare it to the p800/p900/p910 you'll see that the space above and beneath the screen top/flip is much smaller -ginving more space for the qwerty without loosing much of the screen area.
Remember that the screen is still 2,8" and got better resolution.

Quote:Sorry to disappoint you, but your prediction is wrong. Just wait for the wednesday the 12th and beginning of the next month..
To clarify, Nokia are launching the new N-Gage this week in Barcelona, and then at the start of November it's the Mobility Conference, also in Barcelona, where there will be some new products announced (but not released!) including some new Nseries handsets and the rumoured 9300i (9300 with WiFi).
I don't think there will be any shocking surprises, but Nokia are pretty good at keeping secrets these days, unlike Sony Ericsson. I think the fact that people are more interested in SE products recently, rather than 'yet another Nokia' plays a part in why there are more SE leaks than anything else though! I also think SE help with some of the leaks too, a trick used by other companies for years.
Let's consider that Nokia are rarely first with anything. Why should we expect them to be producing a 4 megapixel cameraphone or something tiny with a HD? The N91 doesn't count, it was more a proof-of-concept than anything else, and I'd be amazed if its ever released in its current guise (too big, slow, no autofocus camera and with the old S60 screen resolution).
Sure, when they adopt something properly, they do it well - and produce it on 101 different variants, but over the years they've always lagged behind other companies. Nokia became too mass market and less interested in being first with everything.
They weren't first with dual band, tri band, proper IrDA data, colour screens and they didn't support Bluetooth for ages, put a memory card slot on their first Series 60 phone or think Communicator users might want GPRS! There are plenty of other examples.
They were (almost) first with things like SMS-MO, data cards and changeable covers, plus they created a whole new high-end premium line that even Motorola with their MicroTAC/StarTAC/V-series couldn't match. They've not always been perfect and have disappointed people time and time again, especially when they had their spell of making ridiculous keypads that made some phones unusable.
Nokia are now getting back on their feet, but let's stop assuming that companies like Sony Ericsson should always watch what the competition are doing. Remember the T39, the R520 and the T68? These all got Nokia on the run. Now the K750 is perhaps one of the most popular handsets on sale today, only beaten by the V3 RAZR (and that's only for its looks). Nokia get the market share by pure volume and the reputation it has for having the best UI..
