makes sense to have it in the headset as you need the headset plugged in as an ariel anyway so it saves a little space inside the phone for something else....like 500mb memory maybe

Exactly scotchgitt.. i dont mind that solution, but the P990 will have an integrated RDS radio that you dont need a headset to use.. so you can put on the radio and use the loudspeaker on the phone without the headset.. thats pretty nice

okay you got me.. I checked SE site and it does say under fmradio in the specs that the W900 has a "snap in fm radio accessory that doubles as a remote control for the phone media player" or something like that. Basically it looks like the phone itself doesn't have an fm radio.

As handy as remotes are, I find the music button on the K750/W800 and the track advance button more than enough for my remote needs (these can be operated by touch alone). Anything else and I'm happy to use the phone. So loss of inbuilt radio would chain me to that useless chunky remote for when I'm sick of my own music. I wouldn't buy it for that reason alone (I am fussy about ergonomics).

Still for many people that just wouldn't be an issue.

Evene if the phone did have FM radio built-in to the phone, you can't use it without the headset anyway, It's a much better solution.

Actually that's not necessarily true....depending on your use. the fm radio headset is a lot bulkier and heavier than the HPM-70. If I needed umts, I'd be disappointed at not being able to use the lighter and smaller hpm-70 headset.

dont like those walkman earphones either when you push them in they put pressure on your ears after a while. prefer k750i ones although they should make a 3.5 jack straight into the phone like rokr and n91 then you wouldn't be left with a 2-3 metre headphone cord if u use your own which is a pain. dont like the connection at the bottom some times one of the earpeices will stop working annoying. sony erricsson is miles better than any other manufacturer 3.5 jack straight into the phone would make them perfect! especially if it was on the top like ipod !

it'd be good but problem is incorporating a handsfree headset - more expensive to include mutliple expansion ports on the phone so they want to include data/charging/audio in one connector.

I can live with it as long as they have a hpm70 type option...

I must admit though it's a shame the P990 doesn't have a dedicated audio jack. You can get an adapter that is less thantwo inches long, has a fast port connector on one end and a 3.5 stereo output jack on the other, one of those would be handy when you don't need hands free....
