Just got the phone and immediately updated to the latest. I synchronized the Outlook Inbox. When I try to open the attachement (Word file) it starts the ApplicationQuickword, but then it shuts down ALL the apps on the phone. It does not crash though.
You can do a small workaround... Save the file in some folder on your phone or memory stick. Then close the message-application and then open the saved document. I hope SE will make the message-app take less memory...

Went through the whole thread and haven't seen anyone with the same problem with me yet.
Mine is pretty weird. I don't know if anyone else have the same problem. It's about starting the camera. When I try starting the camera by slide the lens cover or by shutter in stand-by mode, the phone screen turned white and nothing happened (crash). The only way to solve is to take the battery out. This happens pretty frequently on my P990i and I have no idea why. But starting the camera through menu (through Applications), it works just fine!
Funny! Anyone else having the same problem or I should send my phone back to the store!
Thanks

Try updating it with the latest firmware, i have no such problems with my p990i..works prefectly well. As for the crashes??, no need to take the battery out, just hold the power button at top of the phone for about 10-15 secs...that will reboot the phone.

Nice tip for resetting! Thx. But I think I have the latest firmwire (?)
- CXC162037 R7A001
- CXC162058 R4F01
- CXC162036 R3B01
I now start thinking if I should turn it in for a check at the store or exchange for a new one. I'm posting the exact same question in the local Sony Ericsson forum if other phones in my region are also affected since the reseller install Thai language into the phones.
Thx again!

found a really nice but HUGE bug:
situation:
unbranded P990 bought in Luxembourg last Friday
bluetooth enabled (not power save)
have my BMW M5 (E60) car with BT handsfree kit
enable SE blackberry service on phone
enable default 3D colour-cubes screensaver
everytime the unit pairs successfully with the car, it shuts down the phone and restarts, saying "restarted to optimize performance blahblah"
I had this SIX times in 2 hours time when getting in & out the car!
If you repower the phone while still in the car, it will NOT shutdown, but asa someone is calling you, it shuts down again!
I had to disable the screensaver (you cannot disable the Blackberry service once connected) and since then it does not shut down anymore automatically after pairing.
I am still on R4 since the update service wants me to believe I have the latest firmware, while I know it must be R7
note: the blackberry soft comes from the SE Blackberry CD which came with my P990.
Another bug is of course the bad handsfree implementation with BMW E60 OEM bluetooth when having SatNav option, documented in another topic. (no outgoing possible, no phonebook transfer, no incoming hangup)

another bug I discovered:
put on charge in docking station
leave phone power on (was at about 20% battery left)
remove from docking station
green led stayed on
battery icon kept on animating like it was charging!
this did not stop after 2 minutes
I checked battery level and showed 80% (so not charging)
decided to cycle power to reset this, but I could NOT power off the phone, the power button did not respond to any input even keeping it pushed for 20s
I had to remove the battery to reset it to normal
again, FW=R4
overall I think the phone is extremely slow, dunno why (?)

another one I just had:
get a mailbox sms message from wifey
wifey just called before but phone did not react, instead went straight to mailbox, despite good reception and nothing logged like missed call or so?
checked with another contact: seemingly call is not getting through when picture is associated with number!
FW=R4
I am thinking of returning this phone aswell, it is just not working at all, extremely sluggish, and not up to the standards compared with latest Blackberrys, HTCs or even Nokias.
And since I cannot update since online SE service stubbornly keeps telling me I already have latest firmware, the frustration is growing real quickly...

I guess you should return that phone, it seems you unit is deffective...
But most of us arenīt experiencing any of those problems...i use it with a mono and a stereo bt headset without problems, i donīt loose calls ever, it doesnīt reset itself, etc - but i have r7a...
my biggest and almost only complaint is the yet to be optimized memory management

@dirkies
you can get more RAM that may help with your problems. Delete Private Data from Opera, choose small cache, and uninstall all the free games. Reboot and leave for 5 minutes - check how much free RAM you have. Then I suggest you use Swiss Manager to keep your RAM free whenever the flip is closed. See if this helps (assuming your phone does not have a h/w fault).
