Why argue? Cant you see the trend. The successor to P990 will also be the successor to P1. In other words P1 is the interim p-series till the next one comes along in 2008. M-series is dead. SE got burnt from p910 to p990 that it is logical to take it slower so that it can concentrate on a non-TS lower priced smartphone.

I think what it comes down to in the end is some are fine with the m600 type design and some arent. The ones that like the design see it has a successor in terms of form factor and features. The ones that dont like the m600 design, see it as inferior and tend to be current p990 owners.

Guys i think p990i stands out in many ways from p1. i blv we should look at p1 diffrently and p990i diffrently. I think is the best devce that SE has designed till date but its poor firmware spoiled the whole thing initially. now i blv with the new updated FW p990i is a completely a new Device that can still challenge with many other phones in the same range. Offcourse this is a individual opinion.

Good point.
By no means i say the P1 is not a good "upgrade" for anyone that can afford it and like the type of design. M600 users are obviously be tempted to upgrade without even thinking.
But, i myself am a flip design fan, like many P users, and knowing SE is gonna finally make it in a slimmer package makes, together with alot of stuff missing on the P1, makes me confortable in enjoying the P990, that now is finnaly reaching its potential, at least one more year, and then buy its successor (some months after launch at a decent price)

I have no problems with the M600 or its form factor, it's just that as a P800, P910i owner i waited for the P990 as i will wait for the PX or Pxxxx whatever it may be but i will skip the M600's replacement not because i dont like it or am afraid of it but simply because i want something to replace my P990 not match it!

I see the P1 as a lower end P-series, while P990 is higher still (bigger screen, much better keyboard, plus independent number pad).
I dont think the P1's superior camera is that big a deal in what is technically a business-oriented phone.
Still looking forward to R6D for P990, and most likely a true successor to the P990 later this year.

Hi all,
I really fail to see how any one can consider the P1 to be inferior it is going to be the new class leading SE Smart Phone whether you like it or not is immaterial.
Firstly it has more RAM installed and up to 4x more available RAM when running, it has more available and customisable short cuts on the Home screen, it also has the best Camera solution so far offered. Just how this can be inferior makes no sense, current P series users may not like it as it has no flip but that is just a matter of preference.
If it is P990 replacement i cant really see how as it is without the Flip and as it is the Flip that distinguishes the P990 from all others.
I may even get one when it launches as it seems to offer what i expected from the M600 but i will wait to hear how it performs on release and of course it's price, waiting a couple of months at a time for Firmware upgrades is not something i am prepared to deal with any more. Also how ever good the next R6 updates are and even if it brings all of the P1 tweaks to the other UIQ3 devices they will still not have the same available Ram to play with and that alone makes a huge difference IMO.
Marc

the reason that it has more ram installed is mask the problems se are still having with uiq 3.0.
the ordinary user wont notice programs quitting by themselves because there is so much ram..se cant afford to make the same mistake twice.
the p990i sucessor will probably have the same flip setup cos it works.
anyways im standing by p990i cos
a)just got the bloody thing
b)form factor is perfect (i know cos ive been through many pda-phones..xda's treos to name a few)
p1i looks gorgous though..gloosy black with stainless steel..hubba hubba!!!
