I was waiting for this phone for a long time but it looks like i will have to stick with my K800 or switch over to a Nokia unless SE releases a K860 with all these issues fixed and a normal joystick.

you want a joystick that will die on you in 6months?

What the hell, i just noticed, that when i'm taking a panorama pic, only resolution available is VGA (640x480). All other options are grayed out.

Crap. I hope this is a bug and not a feature. I like shooting panorama pics. :/

Does anyone have the following problem---When selecting MEDIA then PICTURES, the phone turns itself off?

Yep have the exact same problem, im not sure how many others have this problem with the media menu but im sure its like all the other problems with this phone....firmware

To fix this problem you have to do a Master Reset. I had the problem and called Vodafone o send it back and about 10 minutes before the delivery guy arrived I fixed it with a master reset. By doing a master reset you will lose all info saved on the phone however, so back up your applications and contacts etc that are saved on the phone.

Ive tried a master reset and worked ok for a few hours and then started doing the same thing again

When I press a button and the backlight comes on at full brightness, the phone then dims in about 5 steps. I'm not talking about when you haven't pressed any keys for a few seconds and it dims before switching off, I mean when the backlight is off and a key is pressed to wake it up. Anyone else's like this?

I too really like the joysticks present on SE phones. Sure, they tend to become unresponsive after 8-12 months, but if it gets too bad you can send the phone off to SE to be repaired (which, I am sure, is why they got rid of the joystick - too many repair requests).

I would have a phone with a joystick any day over one with a D-Pad - especially the K850's. Unfortunately SE have never made a joystick that would be reliable for more than a year with heavy usage (although my K700 did pretty well, working pefectly until I sold it after 11-12months), so the likelyhood of reintroducing one in the near future is fairly slim.

Is it not the light sensor adjusting the screen brightness??

I got hold of the phone Wednesday last week, and so far very satisfied:
IMEI: 35887404
Firm: R1CA029

it's Vodaphone branded, which i upgraded from W900 (which was quite awful, a big disapointment).

Is it me or do O2 branded phone seem to have a lot of problem, according to this thread? My GF had a similar issue when w800 came out, poor firmware used to wipe out the memory card.

Maybe one should compile a list of bugs observed on one platform and not the other, to see where the problem comes from

I have noticed the flash bug, i guess it might have to do with the light sensor, and distance to the subject of the photo. Perhaps a future update will allow the flash to be used at all time. Also, 5mpx is decent, not great, then again it's a phone, not a proper camera. It's good enough to snipe decent quality pics on the go, get yourself an SLR if you intend to do proper photography.

Video seems to work fine, i just encoded a Pantera Video (about 3mns) and it was very fluid at 350kbps.
Now encoding 20mns of video with similar settings to compare.
I recommend using Handbrake for ripping DVDs, I've always been very happy with the results. I hope Mysh or someone else will do a guide to encoding the best video with this phone, as was done on Valpulus.com for the w900 previously. i'll be glad to share my results in the meantime.

The reason why O2 in mentioned on here alot is that o2 will have sold more k850is that voda, it was the first network to release the handset, and most people on here may also be on o2 too.

Also the phones that most are talking about are on o2, but sim free. I have a o2 phone and mine isnt branded like the luvly vodafones are.

Only branding i have is a o2 logo where the play now button is. Other than that, its left pretty much alone.

Yes it is! I had no idea about this feature. Brilliant, thanks.

I went to the SE/3 K770i launch tonight (a purple phone exclusive for 3) where the Sugababes were performing, and Peaches Geldof was DJ, and I took about 40 pictures.

Only 6 or 7 actually came out because the flash never fired on the others! Showed some high-up people at SE who concluded that phone number two is even more faulty than the last one! It seems apparent than the Xenon flash isn't charging up on this one in most cases.

I also demonstrated a few of the known bugs (I can now make the phone reboot on command by trying to send/receive email or download settings) and they seemed surprised. Looks like I'll have phone number three before the weekend (meanwhile, I'm seriously considering going back to my W880i).

Firmware updates are one thing, but how much of these problems are hardware (flash not charging, touch buttons not responding...) ???

Did you happen to mention to them the "Dusty lens cover"? I am not too worried about the firmware problems as I think they will be fixed. Like you I am more concerned how long it will take to fix the hardware?
