I'm sure they learned a lot.
It's the question how brave they are now and how much creativity and quality lies in SE.
I'm sure it will surprise us. The only problem is stability.

More may not be better.

Having 2 input type together is good as long as the use of the UI is coherent for both type (i.e. in both mode the UI is seamless). And P990 UI is obviously not (i.e. it is like having 2 separate UI working together, one in flip close, the other flip open).
We just have to see how Nokia incorporate TS and yet make both key/TS use seamless (as Nokia claimed it will be)
Easier said than done. I myself was quite appalled by the difference between the two UI's (FO and FC) when I first got the phone, especially so since it was my first P-series. Then I realized they weren't too far off from one another and that the only features that were different is caused by the difference in interface. I mean, hard key and touch screen are two really different interfaces and I think UIQ3 in P990 has tried to bridge the difference as much as possible. Of course there are still room for improvements since this is the only UIQ3 on such multiple interfaced phone. The only way I see the two UI's could truly merge though is by having a cursor in FC and navigating it with the hardkey (just like the one in the latest opera mini release) but that would definitely slow things down a lot and defeat certain functions that's supposed to be accessed swiftly through FC. It's not about having more, it's about having more Options and that makes a whale of a difference.

I'm currently using a TyTN, and like the way I can just use the navi pad and or jogdial it actualy kind of makes it easy for one handed use but I don't think WM is my kind of OS, I've realised how much I don't like touchscreens and qwerty boards though but HTC really did a geat job with this.

I am not patronizing SE but look at their track record for the past two years in smart phone area. I find it shameful that Apple has managed to create a wonderful OS ( I know outdated specifications) from the first phone while SE has 5 yrs experience to back.

iphone is based on a core that has been implemented in mobie devices, desktops, servers and more for many years. Apple have a lot of existing industry experience to draw on going back many decades.
Also, as an OEM they are one of the most thorough developers of hardware and compatible user interfaces that work. It's not surprising at all that they do better than SE and even Nokia - the iphone is a typical example of Apple thoroughness. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an apple fanboy, infact I tend to be repulsed by their sickly perfect (and boring) products
But fact is they are VERY GOOD at releasing bug free products.

Right.
Touching the iPhone shows how good the UI can be in terms of graphic exposure, and stability.
I would expect similar quality in the future from others to be honest.
I like perfect products
But my requirements grow, and as soon as P5 comes in, I'll test it heavily in TUFF and critical situations, to know if I'll stay with that for longer.

One could say that there's no such thing as a perfect product, as manufacturers will deliberately leave room for improvement, as they're already planning the next best thing even before they release the current device.
