First off, take a look at this video, its months old. Skip forwards to around 4 minutes into the video. Then, take a look at the green themed background for the next minute or so. Now is it just me, or does it resemble the Playstation 3 animated wave standard background. That appears to be new in Symbian 3 also.

See Youtube link here.

Secondly, do you remember this from a couple of weeks ago:

So in short i suggest like me you buy a N8 now and in a years time see what Apple or Android can offer, but still keep the N8.

Heh, im quoting myself !

Seriously though, people seem to think that Symbian 3 is coming to save the world, take over from Apple or Android and see off every other OS out there.

Newsflash !! - its not !

Symbian 3 is the latest version of a deep rooted OS which has been around for years and seen off other competitors. Remember, Symbian is STILL the current market leader as it holds the largest amount of users than any other platform around the world. Global.

Apple and Android have only surfaced in the last 2-3 years. Because they're brand new operating systems they have integrated functions and features which are more up to date than Symbian since they were implemented in there from day one. Symbian has simply evolved over the years.

Ill say it again, Symbian is not outdated at all, its not been created to keep up with Apple or Android, that will be the job of MeeGo next year. Symbian 3 is for 2010 flagships, Symbian 4 will be for mid range 2011 phones, then MeeGo will take over in 2011 to take on the might of Android and Apple. Next year could be the most exciting time to be a smartphone buyer because 2011 is when the battle really will commence.

Nokia will have MeeGo, Symbian 4, Symbian 3, Series 40, a brand name which is the also funnily enough the global market leader - nobody makes more phones than Nokia do and so they have the biggest chunk of the market share.

What does Google have ? Android.. and Android.. and not much else. Yes, just Android. They do not even make their own phones and so are limited to just how many devices their OS can reach.

What does Apple have ? iOS, which is limited to their products only. Apple, luckily can count of the millions of mindless minions who buy phones for style or fashion over deep advanced functionality.

Neither Android or Apple have got the market covered from all angles. Nokia have, they have an OS for every phone from the budget phones you'd buy for £10 in Asda, to top spec high end devices.

Regarding the N8 enjoy it, love it, love its camera. Love its features.

By the way, ive just been shopping this afternoon and when leaving the supermarket i noticed an advert on the bus stop.

It was for the N8 ! it said coming October. Which is about right, if they said September people would be looking for it now when really its meant to be out 30th. I dont know what else it said since i was driving past at 30mph so didnt get much of a good look, it just showed the N8 in black (or is that charcoal ?) and the aforementioned date.

i cant wait.. but there is no adverts here in the US for N8 sadly
my pre-order still shows a 10-2 arrival, so hopefully i will get it by 10-8 or so..

Do you have a list of the best symbian apps?
My friend had shown be a cool bar code reader app for Iphone, which you can scan any product in the store, and then it pops up a list of places to buy it at the best price.

is there anything like this for symbian?
or any other cool, useful symbian apps?

I am definitely buying that panorama app.. that looked amazing!

Bad news ! i received this email today !

" Thank you for your interest to be among the first to have the Nokia N8 in your hands in the UK.

You have made a great choice for the ultimate entertainment smartphone and world's best cameraphone.

We received your pre-order on xxxxxxxxxxx, and originally scheduled the delivery of your Nokia N8 by the end of September. For your maximum enjoyment of the Nokia N8, we had to move the delivery by a few weeks.

You will receive your brand new Nokia N8 during October. And you will be among the first to fully enjoy the benefits of a smartphone that is packed with HD entertainment and supreme camera capabilities.

If you have any questions about your order, you can contact us directly at 0800 331 6021.
Kind regards,
Nokia Online Shop Customer service http://www.nokia.co.uk/shop "

OH WELL !

Still any time in October is fine by me as long as it does not move back to November.

isn't this what was reported last week?
Nokia kind of blurred the actual release date, to cover up for another delay.
They still say it will be released end of September, but users may not receive it at their door until October.

This kind of buys them a couple of more weeks, without actually providing any new release dates.
My order still shows 10-2, but I ordered from a USA reseller.

EDIT: USA site now says end of October.. used to say end of September..

You know what however ? ive posted pictures on this forum and many others since 2005 when i got my K750i and every phone since then including my Satio and have always had good feedback from fellow forum dwellers but not once have i ever on anything ever manually adjusted the ISO setting on any phone. I always let the phone / camera choose.

So if the N8 lacks an option to manually choose which ISO setting to use, i wont be bothered diddly squat !

Here's a quick example of the quality difference you can get with full auto vs manual shooting:

Two crops side-by-side from two N900 shots. Left side shot with the standard N900 camera app and the right with Nokia's beta FCamera app with ISO manually set to 100. The original shots are in the photo gallery:

the manual ISO shot does not necessarily look better to me.. just darker with less noise & detail

anyway.. you can manually set the ISO on N8.. ISO 100,400, or 800

Like i said, im not too worried. If Nokia want to hold onto the phone for another 3-4 weeks im happy to let them. Its possible they found a pretty alarming bug in the OS which needs patching prior to release. I dont mind as i know Nokia phones are pretty stable when released here in the UK, despite what other people will say when they mention the N97 issues.
