I wouldn't say SE decided smartphones were for the businessmen, it was a given because they were the only people who at the time needed such a device, and would buy one. The mass market wasn't interested in the features these phones brought, when they could buy a more fashionable compact phone that could phone, text and maybe take a photo and could be bought at a reasonable price
Now it has (clearly) completely changed with the majority of people opting for smartphones. It's interesting to look at what brought this about, but I think a main reason is to do with the increase in multimedia websites and social networking such a facebook?
Though I still think in some respects nothing has changed, I'm a student in the age group between 20-30 years old. I'd say the majority of this group don't have a job and still use their phone for texting calling, facebook web browsing etc.) My dad on the other hand who works as an executive in an office job has his iPhone with all his contacts and meetings, as well as his emails all synced to outlook. His colleagues all have this too. Similar phones yet their uses are completely different. And it was the same back in 2004, just the phones were far less similar. He had a smartphone and I had a Nokia 3220 with flashing lights!

you said massive... how come you say something and then change the meaning in a follow up reply when challenged? you've done that a few times lately.
The SG2 has only one dimension out of 3 that is less than the P800 and yet the P800/P900/P910/P990 are "massive"?
At the time I got the P800 I never considered it massive as it had huge functionality compared to previous devices and also huge potential. But of course if you compare it today with current phones that are wider and taller but thinner... well actually, how can you compare? does thinner simply not make it massive? I dunno...

The P800 was very Fisher Price looking, but that didnt bother me at the time... It was just this great new device, different from that before it and one of a kind... The P900 was definitely more refined looking...
Loved the silver strip keys on the P900... I was one of (I think few) people who used both devices with the keypad attached, which in my opinion meant I got the best of both worlds...

P910 115 x 58 x 26mm = 173420mm3
P990 114 x 57 x 25mm = 162450mm3
Samsung Galaxy S2 125 x 66 x 8mm = 66000mm3
So when talking about size if you mean the volume "massive" isn't too bad for description....the S2 is less than half of the other ones...and P800 is almost 3 times the volume of S2

agreed, but volume is a 3 dimensional measurement whereas "fat" is a 1 dimensional measurement which appears to be where this poster was coming from given that he was supporting the S2 as not being "massive" despite 2 of its 3 dimensions being larger than the P800
