I like what I read here:
- G lens with a 1.8 apperture
- Steadyshot is sensor shift stabilisation
- 1/2.3 inch sensor with backlight illumination
Is this for real or are you tricking me into buying it?
In particular, steadyshot seemed only video feature on sony site, is this just a marketting mistake?
Aurelius, please let us know what you can on the engine update schedule!

@Marcink,Sony is using BIONZ image chip which they use in top digital cameras.
@Bono, with Sony You need to examine every single detail. Sony is not using BIONZ image chip they use in top digital cameras, they use BIONZ
mobile image chip. It's probably useless, just like the Bravia
mobile engine and Exmor RS
for mobile. These things quality wise are something very different from the original, the thing in common is name, and it's enough for A LOT of people to get excited
And even call someone out of his mind to even question the quality of something
mobile.
@randomuser, yes I can believe, macro mode is always full of detail. Now do You believe this is a 100% 20MP crop?
Pretty bad if You ask me.

@admad
I believe the crop you made is from the edge of the frame which is not focused hence why it looks bad, furthermore is that from the site random linked awhile ago? I believe that is from a prototype?
Anyway, my point is I can also find an out of focused shot from an 808 and 1020, crop it, and present it here and call it pretty bad.
what we need is a proper camera review, I can see excellent pics, I can see bad pics, but the fact that there are great pics means the camera has the potential, we need a proper review, too early to judge now if you ask me.

I didn't even nottice they used some kind of Bionz chip. Those shots are, per pixel, quite behind most 13mp cameraphones. Again, who cares about all those fancy named technologies, when the result doesn't satify? On the other hand, it's still a proto and in a month or 2 the quality may be quite superior. Waiting for a proper gsmarena test so i could compare the shots with other phones. Z1 looks to be much superior to SGS4 or HTC One, but those are like 150€ chepaer.

@shotokan and Bonovox .. z1 has f2.0 not 1.8
on the pictures.. its getting out of hand. random cropped the focused areas on pictures that were posted from mobile-review (i know cause i remember seeing those photos). this shows just how crisp the photos really are.
that blurry mess posted is definitely from an out of focus area.
by all means, everyone who is bashing Z1's photo quality should go ahead and get something else. From what I can see, it certainly delivers picture quality better than any other android smart phone on the market.
surely there will be crappy photos taken with the Z1. there are crappy photos taken with the best dSLRs too at improper settings and by a novice photographer.

@marcink
Are you seeing properly? How can you say Z1 shots are worse than 13mp phones ? Show me samples from any other phone except Pureview 808 that are superior

Disclosure - I will be buying this phone as soon as it's available to replace my stolen Xperia Z and now sold Xperia Z Ultra
I've asked this question before but got no response so I'll try again
XZ 13mp in 4.3 and when changed to 16.9 it reduced to 9mp approx.
XZU 8mp 4.3 - 16.9 was about 5mp
From image shots of the Z! camera resolution setting is shows 4.3 20mp but when switch to 16.9 it drops to 8mp - anybody know why this is such a big drop, surely all things being equal it should drop to about 13mp, I find this really strange and perhaps it was simply a pre production model, can anyone explain this ?
and those that are arguing about photo image quality have no real grounds to make any argument except the official independent review released by Sony - if it is authentic and truly independent then I can only conclude that the Z1 camera is quite simply amazing
