Well it would be nice to see them try something new, form-factor wise. But this is Sony we're talking about.

Off topic, was shooting behind the scenes with both X15U and 1IV on the set. Set was indoors, lit for the dim scene. Both phones were set to 180 angle shutter, fixed native gain, fixed WB, no stabilization and both set to shoot in 4K HLG. X15U was shooting 30 cause it can't get 25, framedrop setting has been disabled, dolby vision turnedd on. 1IV Video Pro, 25fps no WDR. Results are amazing:
- X15U footage has red noise all over black areas. At the same 1IV didn't exhibit blue grain in any of the darks spots which means it picked up enough light.
- X15U doesn't support object tracking with Dolby Vision on
- X15U has super small window of focus due to sensor/lens combo so you constantly have to tap, tap, tap the screen to focus whenever you pan the phone
- At 0 gain 1IV gathers much more light than 15U. I guess that's due to complexity of lens setup in 15U. Good thing is that you can boost gain without ruining the image. There is a lot more leeway in 15U
- Periscope cam requires tons of light. Much, much more than crappy 1IV telephoto. It's super dim at native gain.
So, you might wonder what kind of image do these cameras output. I have to say they are both equal. X15U has shallow depth so it blurs the details in the background to look creamier while 1IV has some sharpness to it so thin lines can become jaggy or even thinner. 1IV spills some light because it picks up more light.

OK good, no camera cutout. A shame about the likely sensors being the same as previous year but not surprising. Hopefully we'll hear an announcement soon.

very nice to see actual photos so we know for sure it exists!

The new xperia is on the NCC website, Taiwanese certification, but it is still locked and confidential.
The XQ-FS72 also appeared on the NCC smartphone section, probably meaning this was the new NCC listing I saw last day.
I can't seem to upload here, not sure why, so here is a screenshot of the phones on NCC, showing the new model.
