Imho

has had the edge ever since the release of T68
after that Nokia haven't been able to match
But I'm no brand junkie when it's time to exchange my P900 for something else I'll look around in all brands and choose whats best
at that time.

@mib1800
The P900 was regarded by many as not being a 'major upgrade' to the P800, perhaps this might explain those sales figures. SE are never going to outsell Nokia in any serious fashion in the near future, that is unless SE come up with something so fantastic that almost everyone feels they must have it.
When we talk baout one company having an 'edge' over another, I think we should try to define what we mean by 'edge'. SE are not anywhere near as big as Nokia and I don't think anyone, but the most diehard of SE fans, would try to suggest that SE have any edge over Nokia when it coes to sales and marketing. I would suggest, however, that SE does have an advantage in kepeing loyal customers who are willing to buy only its products; Esato itself seems reasonably good evidence of this.

I don't find this discussion interesting anymore because it's pretty obvious that
mib1800 doesn't want to see any good things with SE.
I made a reverse fact of your statement.
You are so damn annoying with your figures, figures itself don't say anything whether a company has an edge over other companies. Nokia's technology is obviously obsolete in Japan, that's why we never will see them there. I just hate Nokia more for everytime I read your kind of posts.

@McKinley
I have to disagree with you on mib1800 old boy, he has, for the most part, presented a reasonably well informed argument and has made several interesting points over the course of this discussion.
Where I do agree with you is regarding the sales figures, they only show what we already know, namely that Nokia is selling more than SE.
Esato members are, on the whole, rather fond of SE, I think anyone who comes here to debate othe rmanufcaturers must expect a certain bias in favour of SE, but I think that we SE fans should also try to be more objective.

Why is everybody saying that nokia has the market? The new stats prove that samsung has been the most popular in the last 6 month!!

@scotsboyuk:
I think u may have misconstrued some of my points on the P900. The main issue is not about volume. It is about riding the wave of growth. If u believe the stat to any degree, u see that SE is not in a good position at all (i.e. stagnant growth in a booming market is very bad).
For SE fans, one consolation is that it is still too early to decide who will be dominant or even the type of "smartphone" (PocketPC, Symbian or just plain Java).
Note that the stat does not consider Java-enabled phone as smartphone. Only those phones with O/S (i.e. support multi-tasking, support for customisation to UI and telephony functions and running of apps in native mode)
Many people think Java would be most dominant platform. So future phones like the K700 or S700 with enhanced Java support (but without customisable OS) can also be considered as a smartphone.

You should
not read this: Better technology is worthless if u cannot translate it to market share. it is not just about better technology. Thousands of people do come up with better technology everyday, but most of these do not go anywhere.
You should read this: SE is the phone maker with best technology and nobody can even come close in coming out with the most advanced phones. Go and bath in this SE glory.

mib1800,
I admit I was harsh but still those figures don't say anything and I'm not a diehard fan to SE, absolutely not but I really prefer it above Nokia. Nokia is producing new smartphones all the time which Sony Ericsson doesn't and that is probably why they keep up the good sale with their smartphones. Prices to all smartphone from Nokia are reasonable and they are also very well feature packed. It is more like smartphones have come to the big market when Sony Ericsson still aim for high-end users.
scotsboyuk,
You are absolutely right in that thing you wrote about mib1800.
I have read some other posts in other forums and he has for the most part presented reasonably well informed argument but not in here which says why Nokia has an edge over Sony Ericsson technologically.
I think this thread is more about future prospects and sales figures.

@All
About SE smartphones negative/none growth.
Nokia has always 4-6 models that are conseidered smartphones (and replces them every 6 months...).
SE has always only 1 (2 at best during transition...).
The smartphone concept as SE Pxxx has lost it's elan. It's not a novelty anymore.
I have to agree that SE should have two more models supporting Symbian but not using UIQ, something more like Nokia's Series 60 (that you can operate with just one hand easily).

i think my argument is logically. maybe u cannot get it. in the low-end segment, technology is not a factor. This segment is about volume. and it is a no-brainer who can push more volume here.
in the mid/high end technology comes into play. but how do u measure technology which is highly subjective? if u r SE fan, u will most likely say P900 contains more functions which makes it more advanced. On the hand, Nokia fans will say Series60 is more advanced because it can pack great functionalities into a small, workable and less costly phone.
however, we can measure how successful a technology is by its sales. many SE fans uses the argument that P900 is a high-end phone and should not be compared to cheaper Nokia (i.e. market segmentation). Assuming that this is so, then we should expect P900 sales to grow in tandem with the booming market. But the stat shows otherwise which can mean that new potential buyers of P900 are dumping P900 and buying other brands.
so maybe SE is the case of having good technology but with unrealised potential (similar to Betamax and MSDuo). SE cannot have an edge if u cannot make the technology to work and translated into sales.
