P990 THE MOST DELAYED CRAP FROM SE
My dear SE friends here is a small conclusion in the most wanted phone of all the
P series smartphones, and the most delayed one.
Well here is the magic recipe:
HOW TO TAKE A SUCCESSFUL AND POPULAR SMARTPHONE AND CREATE ANOTHER NOKIA CRAPPY PHONE.
Here it is SE or maybe I must say S because there is no more ERICSSON in the new phone-s that they are making.
As I had told you in one of my previous posts, a prototype of P990 was in my hands but I didn’t had the time to check it out too much.
Well the prototype came to my hands again last night and this time I had all of the night to check it.
CONCLUSION : The phone crashes every minute even without any app open.
(We leave that ok it is a prototype they will fix that)
The menu of the phone, all of it I am telling you I checked it out 3 or 4 times and I have knowledge of it because I had all the Pseries phones, is much smaller than the P910i, it doesn’t even catches 2/3 of it.
(Ok we leave that to maybe the normal release has more things inside)
The WiFi, oh yes the thing that every one is waiting the phone for,
Well I am sorry to say but it doesn’t work properly, it sees the available networks but it doesn’t connect to them, and after 3sec crashes.
(Ok ok I leave that to maybe it is because of the prototype I believe they’ll fix it too) SOME GOOD STUFF: I am a good person so before I start the final attack against (S) I will say some of the good stuff.
The display is marvelous with very good colors and resolution looks great even someone that doesn’t know about LCDs will tell so.
The camera also has great resolution and it displays in full screen, nice work in that to even with the crashing you could see how good was the capturing. The full screen helps in that.
OVERALL: for the end I left some of the things that drove me mad, and I am starting right away.
The design, MY GOD WHAT IS THIS CRAP I wonder who is the designer.(I would with pleasure shoot him) What happened to the precious P910i, and believe me when you take the new one in your hands and have a closer look because pics are sawing nothing, this is the way you are going to call you P910 (precious).
The phone has bad cheap construction full cheap plastics in front and in the back of it.
(No this is not OK I am not leaving that bad work.)
And we have more, I wonder who was the idiot that decided to put the keyboard over the screen and not on the flip. (Since they have the know-how to do that, why not have a bigger screen.)
Also the flip is crappie too.
The green and the blue leads are missing the one you saw lights only green when you charge the phone. (It was one of the things that I loved, a pure Ericsson one, they took it out to).
These were the things I have to say about P990 sorry guys but I think I am going to cry it reminds me of CMD-Z5 but it has neither quality nor design.
I don’t need to buy a new phone, I was waiting for that since I am a SE fan but they disappointed me, I think I am going to stay with the precious P910 that I have. I was always saying that nokia is garbage, but I begin to see that the quality at least in the expensive models (which is a point that SE should show respect to their costumers) is overcoming all new SONY phones.
For not making any misunderstanding I still hope for a new release P1000 or something, with beautiful design, quality and good functions.
If SE continues like that, I don’t think I am going to retain my fan status.

The crashing - (as you said) It's a prototype
The lacking menu - I assume you mean it doesn't have as many programs installed? Maybe prototype again? If you mean the menu is shorter, probably a matter of better menu design
The keyboard - If we search the forums, everybody who has a 910 complains about the keyboard on the flip. Many people wanted an integrated keyboard. OK, it makes screen smaller, but so much more functional. I would have personally liked to see a slideout keyboard, but this is cool.
The flip - just remove it! Don't think most people even keep it on, especially with keyboard.
The rest - Well, so you are simply complaining about a missing LED color and plastic that feels cheap to you... I personally don't see your reasoning in calling the P990 a crap phone

sxt173, i think he's just dissapointed. This is the most eagerly anticipated phone ever released, and its taking forever. The features he mentions, and the problems he has encountered, we need to know that kind of thing. Don't know if you were a K750i owner, but I wish some one had told me about the problems with them before I bought it!
Issues with the wifi not working are serious problems, and ones that need to be brought to light before release.
If it feels a bit plasticy, I think we should expect that, a lot of the last releases have felt slightly tacky.
Interestingly, there is a lot of talk about the Nokia N80 crashing when connecting to wifi too....

. great pictures, can`t wait for the final software version. i wonder if the proto you have is the hardware retail version. I`ll have my p990 in a week, i hope it says p990i under the battery, not proto.

His harsh review on the overall style of 990i seems to be consistent with the review in the mobile review site which states that the design is cheap due to cost reduction and to apeal to wider range of users. I don't know what that exactly means but I speculate actual volume of the 990i is somwhat larger than that of 910i due to simpler design which makes it easy to pack components together - less effort to assemble parts. I don't own any P series phones, but according to the pictures posted in this site and others that compare previous P series and 990i, 990i could have been designed sleeker. I have been waiting for this phone but begin thinking to skip 990i and get other smart phone, waiting for the next P model. I think SE will not stick to 990 for a long time - if they do, SE will be far behind from other phone manufacturers for their flagship model. However I am looking forward to hearing complains/praises on 990i when it comes out so that I can have better idea on how majority of people like this phone.

' Hmm... I made this comment (or similar) in another thread last night...
' I couldn't POSSIBLY wait any longer than the release of the P990 to replace my phone - so hanging on for the P990's successor is totally out of the question... Besides - I'm really, really looking forward to this phone anyways and have been since forever!!!
' But. At the same time I can just see what's coming around the corner... Can't y'all see the next revision / evolution in the P-Series to be essentially an updated P990 with DVB-H replacing the FM radio and HSPA technology built in for direct and / or modem use??? Maybe not the very next device in line, but it wouldn't surprise me really and I expect we'll see this sorta evolution in the not-too-distant future anyways...
' Hell, I'd love to have the above differences built into me phone. But if we all thought like that and stuck to the \"wait-and-see\" perspective then noone would ever buy any damn phone - everyone would always be waiting on the \"next best thing!\"
' So gimme my P990. I'll just have to suck it up and upgrade again somewhere down the line - when next it makes economical and technical sense from my own perspective.

UIQ3 and Symbian 9.1 are platforms and the M600, P990 & W950 are SE's first devices developed on this platform. After these initial devices newer devices will take a lot less development and I can see that next year we could have a situation where nearly half of SE's line-up could be based on this platform (e.g. flip phone, camcorder phone, true communicator, etc). So think of the P990 as an induction or training for more advanced devices next year!
