if hikaru(or what ever the name it is) was a smartphone and a paris replacement, then i guess it'll be Symbian S60-based just like the Samsung innov8.although i hope that SE will retain the use of fast port connector and ditch the mini-usb. fast port has way more support for accessories than that.
More importantly, I hope Sony Ericsson will revamp the interface to make it SE and not Nokia or Samsung like >_
If samsung can make innov8's s60 3.2 look very different to nokia n96 then i'm very sure SE could also do that as well! anyway SE UI is always much better looking than nokia's period
SE UIQ phones have some unique UIs like:
-the media manager UI
-walkman 3.0 UI
-picture manager UI(the one seen on G900 which is imo better than the 3D gallery in nokia n-series)
-camera UI(sadly the touch AF will become missing for sure

)
-UIQ 3.3 dashboard widgets(back port to s60)
and since s60 3.2 now have those iphone style menu transitions on it, it will fit SE's UI elements well.

They could develop an app of the media gallery like they did on the X1 for S60 devices... I just hate the look of S60... if they make it look like UIQ or A200 I'll be happy =) (or I meant happier)

I doubt on S60 on SE, guys what made you think of it??
Why the hell would they do such an idiotic move?
They have UiQ3.3, very capable.
And it's
touch screen what SE will NOT resign from!!!
Imagine Pseries without it! Hahaha.
And please read the name correctly from Mizzle's post!!

Agreed. Series 60 on a

phone at this point in time would be a little bit crazy.
Sony Ericsson have UIQ3.3 ready to go, so why put S60 on a device now, when they could be spending those resources looking at the whole Symbian Foundation stuff for 2010.
They've got enough troubles without having to maintain S60 as well as A200, A300, UIQ and Windows Mobile platforms.
Might as well send UIQ3 off with a great phone to keep them ticking over until the whole Symbian Foundation stuff has settled down and there are products ready for that. Otherwise there's going to be an 18-24 month gap in their product lineup.

Well The Symbian Foundation platform will be backwards compatible with S60 software etc, and not UIQ as far as I know, so starting with S60 now is probably a good idea.
They will obviously make it look Sony Ericsson, there is no worrying there. I think it is probably their best bet at this moment in time. UIQ can't go on for the few fans (we are not a majority) because it is going to be cut off when the Symbian Foundation takes full effect.

also, even though they are capable, they dont try S60 on their flagship device. SE sitting ON the top with touch screen. if they put s60 they may loose this one. so it must be with UIQ.

Going with S60 as the replacement GUI for the P1 successor would mean having a P series phone without a touch screen interface, which is the wrong direction when the world and their dog want touch screen phones.
Furthermore it would be a new experience for

users, which fundamentally is time limited with S60 Touch / Symbian Foundation appearing within 2 years. Would you really want to start to use S60 and then have to change for your next phone?
I can see the advantages of giving up on UIQ now for

but they still employee some UIQ people, so I'm not convinced the platform is completely dead for the next 12 months. Long term yes, short term ... I think it would make sense to just ship some UIQ3.3 phones as the risks are much lower than changing over to S60 now.
But that's just my thoughts

If SE starts using S60, they will loose the touch screen capability and I believe will have to start paying Nokia a royalty fee for S60. I don't think they would do that. Besides, without touch screen, why should I get an SE, Nokia already has better specs on S60 and their bugs are pretty much ironed out.
SE's best course of action is to announce a UIQ 3.x device on a better platform than the P1i and support that for 2 years until SF becomes available.
