TyTn2 & X1 share a similar processor(both are by Qualcomm, one is MSM7200 the other is MSM7200A which is 128Mhz faster but the lag is not dpendant on the speed but the implementation of 3D acceleratiron, all this has been covered earlier in this post severaltimes), both are made by HTC. If you understand that much you'd understand why its disappointing. The issue maybe resolved at launch we will have to wait and see.

@aksd: From your link:
They took care to emphasize that HTC didn't have a large hand in developing the hardware. “We designed it, HTC is just the ODM” was a phrase I heard twice. SE is (rightfully) very proud of this hardware and though they're utilizing HTC to do the manufacturing, they really want to make sure that they get the credit.
HTC hasn't done as much as most people here think they've done. SE has done the hard work with the hardware and software, HTC just manufactures it (thank god). So to compare to an HTC device is wrong in my opinion.

I know, read that, but HTC IS the ODM, as far as I know SE have not signed and license agreements with Qualcomm for use of their processors, if thats the case the X1 is using an MSM7200A thorugh the HTC license and at this moment no HTC device runs the 3D drivers. Maybe for the X1 SE have paid HTC who in turn have bought the drivers from Qualcomm, but who can say till the device is actually released.
Everybody thought the TyTn2 was going to be a "multimedia device" which it turned out not as powerful as expected or advertised. Having learnt my lesson I will not believe any manufacturer until benchmarks have been run on the device

Ah right fair enough.

Having had no experience with Windows Mobile devices, I don't think I'm really in a position to argue!

I wouldn't mind betting that without running that glossy (but very nice) Xperia interface, ie: just using Today and the Start Menu to access apps would be a lot quicker
Seems Xperia really is just a glorified configurable menu front end. That said, I hope it does have the balls to run Xperia well (on release). I can see myself using the Xperia this way: Running today screen as the main screen, but using "Xperia" as a "main menu". The traditional "Main Menu" screens that s60, UIQ and A100/200 all have, is something that WM doesn't have. Xperia provides this. I was pleased to see Xperia is accessible via a hardcoded button, so it would be possible to use the today screen as your active standby, and Xperia as the menu system for accessing stuff.
Also, I'm expect the ease of creating panels (xml, or if you are a programmer c++) will result in many useful third party panel downloads. This will also be good for the SE modding scene

In the same way SPB shell or point ui replaces the today screen, verysuperfically, you can make sure it does'nt if you want.
You'll have pople asking me now how I know without using the phone, lol, but in WM you can always return to the today screen, it cannot be completely replaced. The panels are more like a launcher than a today screen replacement, they might call it a replacement of the today screen but its not, as soon as you press the end key it should go back to the WM today screen as far as I know, otherwise with a tiny registry edit you can make the WM today screen appear with a touch of the red key.
Max, never thought about modding the panels, but like you said its going to happen, should be fun(If I buy the handset

, seems like HTC have a few big launches planned which wil out gun the X1

).
