Would love to see Z1 variant with DVB-T in built
Considering that you can buy external tuners with microUSB connector for tablets then nothing stands on the way to integrating it with smartphones and phablets. Wouldn't mind paying 20-30 dollars more for it

the Z1 in Japan, will it be the same as the rest of the world
or it is just docomo who will be releasing their own customized model?

Will it have extra features such as IR and TV seg tuner?

from the QX10/100 casing for the Z1, there's an additional hole

Yes it(SO-01F) will have IR blaster and TV seg tuner.

Thanks Ramu I was unable to answer, the people at Sony did not say anything.

The phones used to have one seg, but now full seg (full HD) is becoming standard, so I think the Z1 will need full seg at Docomo and also at AU. Docomo version may come with 32GB of memory (just my guess) because the Fujitsu is currently 64GB so I expect the next Fujitsu to be at least 64GB if not more.

I read that Docomo planned a 3 top campaign with the Z1, the Fujitsu and the Sharp to counter the iphone 5s at Softbank and AU. This included discounts for the 3 phones, like what happened this summer with xperia A and GS4, which helped XA sell 1,300,000 units in about 3 month in Japan. But now that the iphone is coming to Docomo, I read that the campaign/discounts may be cancelled. This could be the final blast and the end for the Japanese phone makers.

The timing is unfortunate for the Japanese makers, because globally iphone is loosing steam and android is winning the battle, it has just yet to happen in Japan. Samsung and the chinese makers will get the benefit in the future. There will obviously be a lot of pressure on Docomo to keep the campaign, but at some point the remaining Japanese makers need to make a choice, give up like NEC and Pana, or sell products outside Japan like Sony.

It is unfortunate that Apple was given the priority to launch their phones before the fall collection. This gave a lot of advantage to the iPhone 5S and diverts demand from Japanese domestic firms.

@Shotokan: I would really like Sony to offer a 32GB ROM for the SO-01F.

Vocaloid Hatsune Miku SO-04E (Xperia A) on sale for only 39000 sets. Vocaloid fans would have gobbled up the sets by now.

Out of curiosity, did anyone have their order from Clove shipped yet?

Kind of wish that manufacturer will sell unlocked version of these products outside of Japan. Definitely would buy one of these, even if there's a premium, if I can actually use it with my carrier of choice. Honestly, with the Z1 design, I think it would look nice if they have some sort of Anime/Manga theme in the back.

This is interesting.

So looks like Z1 viewing angles may be made perfect with software updates?

@king-james - i thought you were skipping Z1 and getting note 3?

@randomuser - i think that's unlikely. it's the similar argument of increasing the color gamut of an LCD panel using software alone. Viewing angles are a property of the LCD panel itself. I personally don't believe any type of software update can improve on it.. i call shenanigans in that video!

I think this is the same "problem" that was talked about earlier.. where brightness level is simply just too high for such a completely dark room, allowing for backlight bleeding to occur and giving the illusion of much worse viewing angles. I bet if he did the same tests in a well lit room, it'd be fine.

Also, if I recall, UK launch is today. If you get your Z1 today or in the next few days, please give your first impression thoughts as to the most contested issues being discussed in this thread.

1) screen colors & viewing angles
2) camera use & current firmware picture quality (post samples with firmware if you like)
3) one handed use due to its size
4) overall impressions

Thanks!
