Hi Guys,
Can i just ask, what ever happened to that supposed software update that supposedly had new functions in and stuff?
Was that a fake, because I remember reading about it, when the PSP was new, did it break the PSP or something?

Sony admits PSP 'update' is genuine
By Tony Smith
Published Tuesday 18th January 2005 11:53 GMT
Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation Portable (PSP)updater that leaked onto the web this past weekend is genuine.
However, it publicly warned owners of the handheld console not to run the software, which it said will "cause the PSP hardware to stop operating".
The updater is configured to install a number of bugfixes, along with a-text-to-speech utility, a-calculator, web browser, email application and most interesting of all a word processor and spreadsheet tool.
However, the update installer as posted does not yet contain all or indeed any of these software components.
The update was said to have been retrieved from a Sony server, but until now the software's bona fides were in doubt. However, a Sony Computer Entertainment International (SCEI) spokes-woman yesterday confirmed that the code "has not been issued officially by SCEI",according to an IDG report.
"We have become aware that there is a software program going around on some web sites and Internet bulletin boards claiming to be an update file that rewrites the system software of the PSP hardware," she said.
"We advise our users not to execute or apply the program as it will cause the PSP hardware to stop operating."
Anyone who has applied the update can send their malfunctioning PSP back to Sony for a repair she said, but the company will charge them for the privilege.

Unfortuanately Esato doesn't seem to like my pictures and keeps giving errors, so I'll try later, here are two to compare the size with my P910.

@ Chazzer3
The main f/w upgrades will not be released until the PSP is available worldwide, so after September.
Also don't expect the update to come out immediately after the Euro launch, they'll keep it up their sleave

NEWS:
I heard today that Sony are clamping down on the importing of PSPs into Europe and the UK. Shops selling them are being told they must stop doing so.
I checked with one supplier in Preston and he confirmed it. He said they were allowed to sell the stock they had but couldn't get anymore and Sony were targeting the supply origins.
Also.......
I was told that this has led to Sony now implementing region coding on the Euro spec PSP (as predicted in this thread a looooong tome ago)!
More worrying though, I was told the games would also be regional! i.e. the UK games will not work on Jap or US PSPs but I'm not sure if this is possible.
I can see that the UK PSP would only play UK games but the US and Jap consoles are region free and so surely would still play them?
