Specs at least matching the latest and greatest from other top manufacturers within a +/- 4 month period.

Dual something with the camera (LEDs or lens or something)
64GB ROM (I'm tired of 'internal storage full move files to sdcard' nonesense)
2K or higher resolution screen
A camera that I can take a photo within 5 seconds of pulling from my pocket and the result is something my dad would say "that is nice"
Waterproof the way they used to
Don't know how ready the SD830 is but if the SD820 is the best around then do that
USB type-c finally
Min 3GB RAM but 4GB would be better

I think that would qualify as top shelf.

As you said, design is subjective. I reserve decision on that until I see some press shots and videos and hold it in my hand.

I agree with all but one of those and thats the screen resolution, I'd still be perfectly happy with 720p on the compact and 1080p on the full size. I know 2K sounds great on paper but for me at least it's just meaningless numbers that do nothing but increase the price of the phone.

@XperiaJunkie The 2K resolution is for the sake of Sony mobile. Anything less and it wouldn't be considered in the industry as a flagship and wouldn't get mentioned in comparison to others on tech blogs and reviews. In stores (still where most phones are sold) they'd be quickly dismissed as overpriced because it is using a resolution from 2012.

@JohnnyNr.5 Do you want less?

@ricky nope. After spending quite a time with s7 edge of my brother I came to the conclusion that it's currently best phone you can get. Great display, camera and battery life. The only down side is no USB typ c and water protection, but now there is the note 7! First device with no compromises. And having the Samsung theme store you can easily get rid off touch wiz's cartoonish look. Only its price is currently holding me back from buying one.

Best display, becouse it has 2K useless screen?
Why are the colors are not natural to much over color reproduction, very common problem in AM oled panels, strange you don't mention that and follow the one minded crowd.

No mention talking about average sound quality and average camera to much oversharping. If you realy wants a Phone with the best display, you need Xperia Z5 Premium it has IPS 4K display with real natural colors.

Build quality is also puh, many people complain about build quality.

@JohnnyNr.5 I'm not sure I completely followed the point of our last few interactions? Was it so you could name drop Samsung a couple of times and say you are going to buy one when you have some money?

I agree with your other points yet this USB-C.
There is no benefit to charging using this standard, other manufacturers have proven no need for it.
Doesn't make for less internal space for a larger battery,
How many computers do you own to handle the larger data bandwidth capacity it offers?

It's 2016 why do we NEED yet another WIRED connector ... we have bluetooh, wifi, LTE!!

@hello best display because great outdoor visibility, super crisp and great viewing angles. Photos and videos really look stunning.

@ricky you described your dream specs for the future Xperia phone and I said that all you were asking for already existed in a Samsung branded device. And yes, I'll probably buy the Note 7 about X-Mas time when the price has dropped a bit. 850EUR is imo just too much.

So also other Phone looks stunning with IPS, the king of outdoor visibility, but you mention also S7, you ignore saturation of colors and calls them stunning, is this what you believe?
