@ Gucci,
Ya, and the middle-to-high end phones are generally still so much cheaper, even with that exchange rate...
BTW, the N82 has been on sale here for the past few days now, just in time for Christmas:

The UK's Carphone Warehouse has now got their own pay-monthly network, called Talkmobile. One of the options is called SIMple, a sim-only contract which you can pull out of with 1 month's notice. This is what you get:
50 minutes and 50 sms's for £6 a month, plus SA is included as one of the 60 international countries where you can phone out of your allocated minutes! Thus 1 minute to SA is the same as 1 minute here out of yor monthly bundle if phoning a landline, and 1 minute on a SA cellphone will take out 2 minutes per spoken minute from your monthly bundle.
Not too shabby for £6 (approx 84) a month...

@gucci -

Well I am just like your friend mate . . . I am HERE, but don't KNOW any SA language
I remember during the early 80's . . that China was the MOST populous country on planet Earth . . . but now it's - India

what happened

For all I know, Chinese are the MOST hard-working people around (I have 50% Chinese-blood) . . .

@ Jojo,
English enjoys its place as a 'universal' language in SA, but it is not the most spoken. That accolade, if memory serves me correctly, goes to Zulu, one of the African languages ( I think it's around 12 million). This is followed by Xhosa (Nelson Mandela's native tongue) and Afrikaans.
Afrikaans is a language which stemmed from the non-English segment of the European people that settled in SA some centuries ago. It first evolved out of Dutch. There were also French and German settlers that came to SA as well.
Out of the 11 official languages, 2 are form European origin, ie. English and Afrikaans, which as already mentioned evolved from Dutch.
Even though English, numerically, is not in the top 3, it is still a widely used 'bridging' language between different cultural and different language groups, although not everyone can or does speak English.
I'm an English-speaking South African, with Afrikaans as my second language. I can speak a bit of Xhosa as well. The mrs has Afrikaans as her first language, and English as her second.
Thus most people on this thread will be able to speak more than 1 SA language.

Any of you guys found that Incredible Connection is ridiculously expensive? Currently I'm in Kimberley, drove 900-odd kilometres to visit some family for the week...I forget though that I didn't have a charger for the Nano...this afternoon popped into the local IC only to find out that they sold the bit you plug into your car lighter but the USB connection to the iPod was excluded...WTF? All this for R219...if I wanted a box filled with iPod goodies including the object of my desire I'd have to fork out R800...Please people, does this make any sense?
BTW, hope everyone enjoys the festive season and the little festive shopping thanks in part to Tito Mboweni.
