Because companies follow pure success, and an established standard.

@senninha, wrong ... it could have a keyboard supporting qwerty hence why the M600 resembles RIM's own 7100 model ... 2letters for 1 key just that SE modified it a bit not to infringe on any .... patents.

BB Connect may truely allow corporations to fully lock & whip clean even of full firmware/software like RIM's own BB devices that are connected to the BES server. I see this every month with the contract that IBM holds for a railway in the USA!

Email is the ... "killer" app for smartphones, much more so than Internet.

Regarding WiFi ... & VoIP ...... one just has to look at a little known BB that RIM created but is in HIGH demand for large corporations.

Take a quick read and see what the email king is doing ... and yes they are currently the king no matter how the court case with NTP is going.

I really wish it had p990 spec, I know its supposed to be a business phone, but it would appeal to masses as well if it had a cam, and id like wi-fi, but no they dont have either, I saw it and thought it was a beast (design and size) but it doesnt hate the features I want

yup, doesn't have to be a standard QWERTY keyboard. a variation using rocker keys achieves pretty much the same thing, but the objective is the same. QWERTY-esque interface is part of the blackberry licensing terms.

But this phone with cam and wi-fi IS a P990 more or less. Unless you want the impossible and have a device smaller & lighter than the sum of it's parts..

Add wi-fi and a cam and it gets bigger, and the only difference between it and P990 is the casing.

@super g, wifi speed is massively faster than 3G. Of that I am fully aware believe me.

I have wifi at home and work, I wouldn't put my laptop on 3G instead of wifi. But a business phone usually doesn't have any need for such speeds. Even on a wifi hotspot the internet is the limiting factor not the speed of wifi which is way faster than the internet. Especially when the internet is share with many people. So the effecticve throughput of internet traffic on a wifi hotspot is rarely much faster (and usually slower) than 384Kbps anyway.

And what local data are you transferring with free public hotspots? None. At home it's a different story (for example copying 200MB of mp3's)And at home you can use the cable anyway.

You are forgetting that wifi can be much cheaper than 3G on a volume basis. Wifi might be a few bucks an hour at your favourite cafe, but much more expensive using the network. This message was posted from a K700i

well it's not particularly common yet, but I think it's not far off. Corporate use of wifi handsets will baloon with voip hand-off to 3G and vice versa but not before. But the M600 will see a lot of market penetration before lack of wifi in a phone becomes a serious issue imho.

Well it took a little while, but I read all pages of this thread.

Just my $0.02: There is really no point arguing over WiFi vs 3G with respect to speed, since we all know that WiFi is much faster.

The question is really one of priorities. IMO, the cell phone will NEVER be the "office away from the office". Reason? If you are a corporate user, then you likely already have a laptop that you wouldn't leave behind on a business trip anyway. Even the P9xx series will never replace a laptop.

I think email is and will continue to be the bulk of the required conveniences when away from the office. In that sense, GSM/GPRS, UMTS, 3G is more than sufficient in almost all cases. (Yes of course if you send mega emails with large attachments then it's not convenient any more, but I think that is the exception...)

The M600 isn't a replacement for a laptop. I join the crowd who think that the WiFi is not crucial for business on this phone - mostly for the reason already stated; they all have laptops anyway, and they won't leave those behind just because they have a new M600.

I love the block form factor and would never buy a phone of other forms. But that's just me. The camera issue is, as most issues, simply one of preference. It's a double edged sword, and the requirement for a camera vs the requirement to NOT have one is extremely individual.

For me, I don't have a reason not to have one, and just having the security of creating images in the unlikely event of a car accident etc. is worth the extra bulk of it being there. And the K750i's 2megapixel camera ROCKS.

Until the M600, I was convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt that there would NEVER be a phone/pda combo that would be to my liking, because the inclusion of a PDA in a phone would by default make it too big and cumbersome. Now, I am obviously rethinking that, because the M600 appears to be well on the way to something I never thought could exist.

Well it may be aimed at corporate users, I think the home market is not to be underestimated.

New technology is so cool.
