@@@ thats y O2 offer online talkplans as they know orange WONT match then - they have to be advertised popular talkplans - they would not match genie either - good job as that talkplan is a business killer - they were nuts to give such a good deal - no customer service though is there with online talkplans - all done via e-mail etc

I've decided sod the p800 and lets go with the SPV- it does everything I want bar

but IMHO thats a small price to pay for a device thats only £100 (compared to £300 for p800). Not only that,at least orange had the foresight to have a GPRS bundle for £6 a month which was the killer close for me as without it I may still of bought the phone but wouldn't have used many of the features due to GPRS being so expensive. Ok it may have the occasional glitch but if you can sort that out OTA I don't mind. After living with my T68 which must of been the most unreliable handset ever and having to travel 60 miles for the SW upgrade I don't care.
I'm buying an SPV and I don't care. Bye bye nokia, bye bye

.
The future bright, the futures microsoft.

xp - not crashing ?!?!1
wtf !??! its clear sum peeps just arent having probs when others are having a nightmare and from personal experience aprt from you guys on here EVERYONE i kno who has xp ses its wank 4 crashin especially IE

everything bout xp is top notch but its stability its so low and IE is a joke: unsecure, unstable just shockin when u compare to mozilla etc and basically anything on linux
as for the guy who said IE on spv and real web pages on decent sized phone, that true is a good point, all i d say though is how much scrolling are u gonna have 2 do 2 read and view the whole page !?!?!?
real web pages on a normal sized phone seems a lil dim 2 me - nice feature but if ur looking 2 surf the real web on ur phone the surely ud want a decent sized screen 2 view it on !?!?!

the 4quid option is for access via wap only - the other bundles are fr downloading data - emails etc
I read that the GPRS bundle was for ANYTHING (including emails etc), but that the bundle only lasts for a year, then you have to go to one of their normal packages
I'll try and find the article and post it here.

From the orange web site:
the SPV pack
The purchase of the SPV phone is subject to connection to the SPV promotional pack. It provides unlimited web browsing, email and access to a great range of information and entertainment services (terms and conditions apply) and costs £6 per month on top of your existing Service Plan. The pack can be purchased until 31st March 2003 and runs until 30th April 2003. At the end of the promotional period you will automatically be changed onto an equal or lower priced GPRS bundle with a megabyte cap.

GPRS.......Ive been using GPRS for wap and more recently for web on ipaq using btooth with a t68/i.....it is ridiculously expensive even with the text only opion switched on. i am NOT going to entertain it any longer, the pricing is silly even on the high tarrifs, i was using orange but they are ALL a complete stitch. i am concerned about buying my next phone with features based strongly on the use of GPRS. I am a sensible user, but on GPRS web u find yourself paying high kb unit prices for lots of crap you didnt actually want to view but when you see it you have already paid for it chum.....a nice cup of tea now i think,i like this site, it reminds me of my home planet.....no solid ground but lots of atmosphere.

Too right... but I think they're trying to find ways to fund the 3G networks.
SMS is still too pricey, considering the number of SMSs sent each month (I think it recently went over a billion across all UK networks). That makes the networks around £40,000 a month, on top of you line rental and voice calls!
MMS is even more expensive, and more expensive than the equivalent data transfer using GPRS.
They're not stupid... but they are killing of large scale take up of the services.

@bingo & @wizgti - couldn't agree more GPRS is STEEP - but u want a premium product u gotta pay for it.(it is still a relativly new service here to UK consumers - ask joe public what gprs is and 9 times outta ten they won't know) u DONT have to use it - but u will NEED to -

oh and @bingo - just to confuse u - there are three types of gprs bundles on Orange
1= access pack for £4 a month which gives 10mb of gprs WAP browsing or 200 mins of CSD wap access.
2= 'normal' GPRS bundle - lowest is dear at £4 a month for 0.5mb of data which CAN be used for wap access or e-mail downloads to ur handset/PC (which is dear - after bundle is used it is £8 per mb!!!)
3= the 'SPV bundle' u mentioned - confusing shit Iknow.
