Hi, just got my grey W580i today. GORGEOUS!
1-There is an option to turn ON or OFF on both sliding up to answer and closing to end call.
2-The effects can be seen when the slider is closed, cause there is a gap between the front and back piece.
3-The lights UNFORTUNATELY doesnt work with the walkman features unlike w850i.
4-Shake feature is very simple, just skipping to the next music track when you shake forward (It is in the phone maual).
5-You can assign video as CONTACT RINGTONE or RINGTONE, and YES you can assign different light effects to all your contacts.
Hope you are happy with my info. I am still trying to explore the phone, will update if got any new tricks! Haha...

Thanks for the info, it's appreciated! but does the shake feature work both ways backwards and forwards??
Now is it really worth it to sacrifice the grey/black better colors for the white one which have the extra walkman front light effects ??!!:-|
Oh, yes! The Shaker feature can be performed either sideways or front to back. I think there's a sensor. To activate it you have to press on the "Walkman" button before you "Shake".
The White/ Orange one has lights coming out of the two round buttons just below the screen. The Grey/ Blue and Black/ Orange one doesn't have it... The White/ Orange color phone isn't really "White", it is more metallic silverish white. If you look back on the prototype, they had it in "Pure white", but the lights protrude through the housing...
I am a proud owner of the W580i (Grey/ Blue), really classy and nice! Blue lights emits from the keypads with dark background... NICE!!!

Coming from a K810 it feels very thin. Lovely phone all round and the camera is better than I expected!

slider is solid? s500i was shocking slider, both same phones, almost. maybe the fixed it in w580 and thats why it came out this much later...
hmmm, ill see mine tomorrow, white version
ordered yesterday, supplier gets grey today, might sell and get grey
