> How do i get my money back?
Bookmark topic
I run the support group on ebay for those who have been scammed and just wanted to introduce myself.
I am currently helping 54 members to get justice and there are a number of scam sellers involved. The numbers are rising daily and I am also approaching people who have been ripped off to get as much support and help. There are many [probably 100's] out there who have suffered at the hands of these scumbag sellers, just hope that I can get to them all.

Sorry to hear about this. I hate ebay users that continue to rip people off but it's only a matter of time before they get caught.

Hi Pauline,
Are you an official Ebay Employee? or are you just a volunteer.
What can you do to help?
Are you just looking at seeing these people put away, or do you help the victims get there money back?
Can I also ask how you found out about this forum Thread?

Hi Dixy Wixy, I am a volunteer, certainly don't work for ebay!!! I help on the ebay Community Question and Answer Boards on a voluntary basis and in September 2007, a member posted that they had been ripped off for tickets. On the strength of that post and my experience with ebay, I set up a group to help those in a similar situation and now am working hard to get justice. I want my group members to work towards getting the sellers prosecuted and, hopefully, thier money back.
One of the members of the group posted a link to this post which is how I come to be here.

What can you do for us?
You say that you are currently helping Others, what is happening exactly and how. Do you have a link to a forum or website that these people are sharing info.
If you think you can help us too then please give details of how.

hi all,
yes, here is another one. I bought 2 take that tickets for £354 in July, and clearly they are not going to come.
I have followed all of the info on here and spoken to PC West and Hull police this morning. I have also left a message on the BBC Watchdog answer machine - you can get the number from
www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog
Also, has anyone had a paypal refund when paying with paypal funds (not via a credit card) ???
I think ebay and paypal are not wanting to pay out on this one, and it seems from what Hull Police told me this is the case. They also told me that they are estimating well over 50 people being conned and the amount over £30k
Lets all keep on it, especially to ebay and paypal who deserve all the bad publicity they can get, as they are not making this easy
All the best
Simon

Hi again Dixy,
Thanks for your comments. I oversee the group and can offer advice and guidance as to how to reclaim money back from Paypal [if within the time limits], how to report sellers to both the police and ebay and researching seller history to bring as many members to the group to substantiate the cases and for those members to work together with a common complaint.
Our latest new member is one of the police force that are investigating seller matrixman666 so things are happening.
I have approached both the National press and Watchdog with details but am sorry to say that neither have responded to date.
In terms of what I can do, basically liaise with the members and the police to get a result, both refunds and prosecution. I have endlessly reported scam auctions/scam sellers to get them removed from ebay.
Some buyers come along and they are naive to the ebay/Paypal claims system so I can help in that aspect too.
The link to the group is as follows:-

There are currently 59 members.

Pauline,
Does your support group know much about the Debbie Ann Shepherd lion*heart* case ?
This is the one we are all here about. This case seems unique to me because the seller actually lived at a known address in Hull, untill a few months ago... No false Identity here we think. The police seem quietly confident in catching this fraudster fairly soon...
Please tell me, what is your take on Ebay allowing people to Use the Title power seller... giving Buyers a false sence of security. We were all taken in by this supposidly trusted seller. Do you beleive Ebay could be at fault here, even Liable under the trades description act??

Please excuse my spelling

Hi again Dixy,
re:- Powerseller status, this is based upon generated income i.e. a seller gets granted this when they sell over a certain amount of money and then keeps their sales/income within a monthly target. They must also have pretty clean feedback so, although the title sounds grand, it is not!! Many buyers are duped into believing that a Power Seller is some sort of ebay God!! I will say that, in general, there is no problems but ebay do need to address this to stop these people continuing to trade. The saddest part is that some of the ticket buyers left positive feedback months in advance saying "Can't wait for the tickets to arrive, very helpful seller" etc which gives a completely false impression and, future potential buyers may not spot the flaw as, how many buyers really go through all the feedback? [I do!!]
Re lion*heart*, yes, this seller is being investigated and is at the top of the scammers list. She was the 1st seller discussed by the group and the reason the group was set up.
Finally, Ebay do not check every individual listing and the only way that action can be taken is if they are reported, I spend hours reporting illegal listings and rogue sellers but it is such a big problem that I simply do not have the time to sift through 100's of listings to report. The more reports, the more seriously ebay willl take it but why should it be that way? Depending on members to report listings is disgraceful and there should be stringent checks in place BEFORE a member can even get to the listing stage.
Sorry that was long-winded, off to work now!!

Pauline,
Thanks again for your response, I know that you are a very busy person and I appreciate all the effort you have put into responding to my queiries. I fully understand that you are a volunteer and like my self have plenty of other things to be getting on with But... I hope I don't appear Jerremy Paxman Like here, but I would appreciate an answer to the two following questions.
In your opinion do you think Ebay could be liable under the trades description act for letting a seller gain trusted Power Seller status, and then rip loads of people off ?
Secoundly, Have you ever known Ebay or Paypal to Refund after their respective 60 day and 45 day deadlines have passed ?
Thanks again
Dixy
