@Razek, if you read this thread and the net it appears the G900 and G700 DO have UIQ 3.2, that's why the interface is different as it can have a skin of what ever the manufacturer wants. That's what I've read anyway.
Sure HSDPA is nice but no one really cares about it, yes all the power users on Esato do but Joe Bloggs won't know any different so won't miss it which is where these phones will be aimed, I find current normal 3G more then fast enough. I'm not going to stream films onto it etc!

@Laffen

Thanks a million buddy for that photo, once again SE make my smart phone look like a massive brick LOL hahahahah. It looks a fair bit smaller so more pocket friendly and the G900's screen looks much better also.

I had a chat with the product manager of the G900 / G700 today. He could tell me that the G900 has 8 GB internaly memory, but this could change before the lauch. This is not official from Sony Ericsson and that is why you can't fin the information anywhere.

@laffen
so that means....at launch we could have 8GB of internal memory...because now the official statment is 160M, which is kinda small amount...IMHO

i seriously doubt that 8gb figure...

apoloa, i now seriously doubt that is uiq 3.2...however, what it is is a new special SE "shell" for UIQ, similar to HTC´s touchflow...

this means also it will be really easy for them to release this shell for the other UIQ3 phones, via firmware

We might be able to use them using the "standby application" in the control panel of the P1i.

Hopefully, it's UIQv3.1 or 3.2. And hopefully, the menus are built on svg tiny 1.2 implementations ..

edit: ..but I'll believe it when I see it, about whether or not SE decides to suddenly jump to attention when it comes to supporting units with new software (never mind releasing the apis needed to create new plugins for the home- screens. I'm guessing that would probably happen right after SE starts to think thoughts like: "hmm, yes, if the software on our phones are good, no matter who wrote it, maybe people will buy our phones?").

@mizzle
afaik UIQ 3.2 is based on Symbian OS v9.2 while the w960/p1 runs symbian os 9.1...so I don't think the new firmware will have UIQ 3.2......

I just wanted to confirm one thing......

Will UIQ 3.0 apps run on UIQ 3.2?

If not, then I don't wanna upgrade...I'll lose all my apps

yes...they will run easily

again, i am almost sure the g series UI is just a new shell...so it can be easily used on any of the other UIQ3 devices...

My oppinion is that SE spent so much money developing the current UIQ 3.1 implementation, that now their strategy is to make some profit from it.
Than means they will implement UIQ in lower end phones and make it the new "S60" from Sony Ericsson.
They can now advertise lots of advantages, including touch screen and multimedia capability on every phone low end phone.
The UIQ as we know it will become the main OS of Sony Ericsson for everyone, and the G series is just the start.
I think the G series is just a P1 repackaged with no big differences.
It that's true, I believe a new UIQ is on the move for a high end UIQ series of phones.

It's backwards- compatible. So that wouldn't be a problem. What would be a problem, would be to get flash- animations to run without svg tiny 1.2, and so on. So it might be that programs written for uiqv3.2 wouldn't necessarily work on uiq3.

But it's not like the symbian versions are dependent on one specific hardware- configuration. So it's definitively possible to get the p1 over on a symbian 9.2 build. ..I expect the differences between the hardware uiqv3.2 and uiqv3 runs on are pretty much not there, as far as the abstraction layer is concerned. (And I mean, you're not going to convince me that SE got to work and re- configured the entire mainboard, the functions and the internal hardware- layout logic, when they built the g900 and 700.. So it basically stands and falls on whether SE and UIQ has any interest in going ahead with it. Or whether they have the foresight to see that managing a backport on certain functions on their phones - or a full upgrade - would be an exceptionally good idea in order to be able to work on a platform more consistently over more than a few months at a time, etc...)
