@F1eddie - Like Morton, my first language is English. In fact, less than 3pc of the irish population now use Irish as their first language. Just out of interest,by "F1eddie" do you mean Eddie Jordan or Irvine?

Eddie Irvine. i made it up as my email years ago and i just use it all the time now. i know that technically that english is our first language, seeming i also use only english, buit no matter what facts you give me about our use of english, it does not change the fact that irish is still irelands first language. but anyway enough about that.

Now i was looking at my passport and it says "Eire" on it...... never mind!
Actually can i ask something? Does everyone think you need to be white to be Irish? I mean I was in cork about a year ago in a pub and at the end of a session there was the national anthem. Now i joined in as gaelige and at the end a friend of mine (from cork) what was i singing that for? Similarly i play a bit of trad irish music and have played in a pub in dublin with mates and it never ceases to be a cause of wonder for the locals! First time i was there i was asked was i from Japan.
On the other hand i played in a pub in Killaloe on new years eve and i got alot of hand shakes etc well done..... so.

you don't have to be white to be irish nowadays. just look at that black guy on 'ros na run'. he seems pretty irish to me.

scorchio ,(as bearla !!!!) this is a forum for discussion on Sony Ericsson telephones ...if you want to discuss history and geography then maybe you should be on another forum ? you may then get some correct information.
My first language is Gaeilge / gaelic / irish (...whatever you decide to call it) and as it is an internationally recognized language and one used in the european parliament i can use it whenever i want, whether to name the county and / or the country i live in. ......i do not see that as living in the past !
again ...if it's nobodies concern .......?
