64GB on compact is very welcome. if true, then non-compact would have the same or more

Personally, I'd like to see a new type of camera flash.
That would be something that would make a real life difference, being able to take great indoor shots in low light, whether it be in a bar or whatever.
We've seen improvements in battery, storage can be improved, waterproofing gives you peace of mind and the screen on my Z5C is still flawless so that's good for it's resale value because a few scratches can knock many £££s off the resale value.
I don't think the current flash set up quite cuts it though.

It is real but it will not be ready for MWC next year. We will only see phones with SD821/823 at MWC.

Why dont Sony reintroduce the Xenon flash? Sorts out the night shots easily and no one has even bothered to bring it back, last one was the good old Nokia 1020? That would set them apart from the usual boring manufacturers......

Because Xenon flash is expensive, needs a lot of space and cannot be used as a flashlight.

At that screen size (4.6") 720p is more than enough personally and it's only going to help with prolonging the battery life too.
More than enough for you, not for the rest. $200 phones have 1080p displays already, noone will buy $600 flagship with 720p. And the difference is visible, even when you can't see separate pixels there's visible difference in sharpness of little details, textures, text etc. HTC was selling 1080p 4,7" display in 2013... Battery life? Real world difference is negligible.

Best display, becouse it has 2K useless screen?
Why are the colors are not natural to much over color reproduction, very common problem in AM oled panels, strange you don't mention that and follow the one minded crowd.
No mention talking about average sound quality and average camera to much oversharping. If you realy wants a Phone with the best display, you need Xperia Z5 Premium it has IPS 4K display with real natural colors.
Best display because it's sharp, bright, has infinite contrast, great viewing angles and near perfect color reproduction. You're stuck in 2013 or 2014 when AMOLEDs had poor colors. Now they're excellent, far better than IPS displays. Especially Sony's unfortunately. Z5 Premium is one of the examplues - except the resolution it's a pretty bad display - mediocre contract, poor color temperature (very cold, everything turns blue) and poor color reproduction.
Sound quality is average for a flagship but it's on the Z5 level. S7 has the best camera on the market today. Z5 or X Performance are not even close. Not perfect in everything but it's still the best.
@ricky you described your dream specs for the future Xperia phone and I said that all you were asking for already existed in a Samsung branded device. And yes, I'll probably buy the Note 7 about X-Mas time when the price has dropped a bit. 850EUR is imo just too much.
Samsung, HTC, LG, Xiaomi and many others. Those specs are the base to call device a flagship. They're the base to charge flagship money for it. Now Sony has to offer something extra to choose their device - design, display, unique camera, user experience/UI, support etc. What we're going to get is a below flagship specs (2-3GB of RAM, 720p not so good display), mediocre camera, speakers and a few other things - for the price of S7 edge, HTC 10 or other super-flagships. Sony needs to make a step forward.

They don't need another flash, they need better camera overall. One year old Nexus with IMX377 and no stabilization trashes any xperia on the market in terms of picture quality. It is possible to make a good camera in such setup. IMX300 is great and extremely capable sensor, probably the best on the market and Sony fails miserably to make a good camera with it. That's the real problem.
It is real but for 2017. No phone in 2016 is going to get it. For 2016 there's 82x series. Knowing Sony - don't expect enything more than SD820, even SD821 is very unlikely. There's no SD823.
