A whole new design will debut at MWC next year 100% the design language will be to try and mimic the current TV range so expect smaller bezels and OLED display but keeping the front facing stereo speakers rather than having an acoustic display at least not next year anyway.

Why without OIS? Below a certain lighting level it's impossible to make a 100% blur free shots handheld.
Years ago, when OIS would have been already demanded, Sony's excuse was that OIS is not implemented to avoid camera bump. Now XZ1 has camera bump, and XZ1 compact is nearly as thick as 2009's C901 -which implemented also metal camera cover, Xenon flash, and mechanical shutter...
Even Apple uses OIS in all of its phones since last year. I said "even Apple", because they are the only one who want to sell their phones for high prices just because of the branding and trying to postpone critical technical developments as much as possible. Now with the iPhone X that's not the case. You can see lots of competitive solutions not only the smooth user experience and Apple branding...
After 5 Z3 compacts (which all ended up with detached front panel) I bought an XA1... And the XA1 is even an odd of Sony's portfolio. You can say that it has great price/value ratio, and you see on this phone that the design and marketing stuff came back from holiday...
The strange is, that present Xperia flagships offer bigger values, numbers, but concrete additional features not that much.
However, what surprises me using the XA1 (and these would characterise almost all present Xperia models)
-There is no more Xperia keyboard. (I've installed the apk... But, come on, how many resources requires to implement an already developed -and really great- application to the new phones?) Even Chinese manufacturers offer their own text input solutions, instead of preinstalling one of Google play stores offerings...
No small apps, no DLNA support/throw.
For me reaching the upper left corner of the screen with one hand is the mission impossible. Why can't be implemented the one handed mode known from ultra Xperias?

Sony is the #1 camera manufacturer.
I believe there is reason to avoid OIS, not only design thing.
Most people end up using Auto Superior only. As we all know the AS in low light will IDK why a ISO value that high.
At least 300 more than other phones. And often above 1000. For great low light shots, a value between 50 - 100 is the best.
High ISO means faster Shutter like 1/12s, 1/20s, 1/35s.
High ISO + faster shutter = less light in + more noise
OIS will help you when you need slow shutter like 0.5s , 1s or 20s.
Only manual mode gives you SS of 0.5 or 1s.
Auto will never. And people use auto 99% of the time.
On my phone the difference between shots taken by Auto ( 8MP) and Manual ( 8MP SCN Night Scene) is giant.
In my opinion the ISO should be limited for Auto Superior, no more than 250.
Then on Manual you can use up to 12800.

If any of you used a cybershot rx camera, you will know that they have a technology called handheld twilight. It issimilar to hdr, take 6 photos with high iso, combining them to reduce noise. Worked very well on my rx1. I had always wish that sony actually bring this to the new phones. Much better than any ois.

As I child I used full manual camera with film... and you can realise by the price of lots of unusable shots, and film frames that 1/30 shutter speed is at the borderline of making blurfree photos... below 1/30 is 100% failure without tripod, starting from 1/60 is 90% that you won't experience motion blur caused by handshake.
I know what shutter speeds and ISO values Sony uses. I try all of my friends' phones cameras and I always check the shutter speeds and ISO values. Sony increases ISO untill 3200, while slowing down the shutter speed down to 1/16, than to 1/8, after that increases the ISO values. In manual mode you can set only up to ISO 3200, with third party application can you reach the highest supported values...
Even indoors 1/16 shutter speed leads to blurry ghosted pictures due to handshakes.
While Galaxy s8, iPhone 7 can go down to 1/4 s, while taking incredibly crisp shots, and what's more important, they offer a
reliable perfomance, in low light, reducing to the minimum the possibilities of failed shots.
What's sad, that present Sony phones perform good only in daylight... In pitch dark also perform acceptable, but indoors make worse shots, than even 2011's Xperia ray.
I don't share marketing BS what I read, but basing on my Z3 compact and XA1 experience I say that using present Xperias it's only up to your luck what shots you will take indoors, and beleive, I've tried all the possible setting. BTW in the case of XA1 setting 1/60 shutter speed helps to get rid of motion blur up untill a certain lighting level.
On the other hand in still photography they introduce in their own models almost no improvements.
from Z1 (2013) they used the same sensors in flagships, untill 2015 when they introduced with Z5 series PDAF, now in 2017 the super slow motion... Almost no improvement in camera, in design, and Sony continuously whittles down all remained software features. They think desing is the best without the need of evolving, they also think Xperias have the best cameras (while almost any midranger Samsung outperforms Xperia flagships), which obviously isn' true if you have compared any other phone camera with Sony's in the past 4 years...
And I'm sorry to say this, but after seeing the XZ1 and XZ1 Compact I'm completely disappointed. XZ1C offers marginally the same as 2015's Z5C for nearly the same price tag as Galaxy S8 have. Come on... We can't be that blind, that stupid...
You all defend Sony, why wouldn't be important at all to put OIS in their phones.
I ask inversely: What would happen if Sony would implement OIS in their phones? Maybe we would get better low light shots. And what if Sony would try to catch up with competition, which blow away Xperias using sensors produced even by Sony????
