Of course we know this. Technology baffles, so consumers just follow like sheep. (See my point earlier about Megapixel counts. It's used like branding so people just buy more and more expensive technology they don't actually need, regardless of whether it's actually any better)

Its why I don't understand some posts on Esato, because people moan about how phones are 'copy and pasted'; but no-one else other than enthusiasts know that, or even care for that matter! That's why people 'upgrade' from a K800i to a K770i, or a K750i to a W810i and are perfectly happy! And that's why do it over, and over again. Because the public will buy anything, as long as it looks nice, and has the right logo.

But my point is you would think people who actually SELL phones, would have the first clue about them! The amount of times I've told a 'Salesman' what a phone can do in a shop is really scary!

It's allways like this.. Buy a washing machine, a car, a hifi stereo... All the salesmen do know about the products is centrifugal rpm's, engine hp's and total output in watt... Every other tech and spec, they'll have to read from their brochures... (which allready contains all the selling points the manufacturer thinks we want to know)...
You'll allways have to do some research by your own... If you want a washing machine, ask your mom.. If you want a car, ask a mechanic.. If you want a cellphone, check ESATO...

I think at least a car salesman can tell the difference between a Prius and a Focus. Not knowing one model from another is pathetic.

Anyway I was looking forward to the C905 but the video quality is the only thing that puts me off. On a phone which is supposed to be camera orientated, it's a very poor show. For me it's a very important feature. I always use video clips on my Panasonic Camera, because sometimes a picture just doesn't tell the story, or capture the memory as well. I buy a top of the range camera phone I don't expect specs that are 3 years old. If other phones can do it I may look elsewhere.

Manufacturers play this game all the time. They cut corners where-ever they can. Why is there no true All In One phone? Because no OEM is prepared to give a phone everything, because it would cost too much and not enough people would buy it.

Why have Nokia dicked around so long getting a touchscreen organised? Why have SE never brought out a walkman cybershot? Why does WM still not support answering machine software? The answer to all these questions is the same. The OEM's are unwilling to spend the development bucks because they don't expect to make enough on the end result.

If it was otherwise then why wouldn't they do it? It's not because they sit in their executive office going "let's piss of our customer's by keeping the video recording capability to a minimum". I mean why would they? It's because it costs more and they don't believe people who buy phones for the camera care enough about video to prevent them from buying the phone just because the video isn't as good as it could be. They've already spent enough money ensuring the camera itself is better than the standard models, so they cut corners on the video capability.

It's just economics. People spend a lot of time moaning about why SE don't do this or don't do that, but in the final analysis it's just good business.

Why didn't K750 have qvga video recording when the W900 did? Well, look at both models: I can guarantee you they made a shitload more off the K750 than they did on the W900 (the W900 was probably a loss for SE, like the S700 it was made to show off SE capability not to make money)

I myself bought the K750 and the K800 for their cameras: I could have bought an N70 instead of the K750 and I would have had qvga recording ability, but at the cost of 2MP photo quality. Each OEM will have a different assessment of where to cut corners. SE cut corners in video recording, Nokia cut corners in photo quality.

If you want vga video recording why not get an N95? What's that you say, SE make more stylish phones with better quality cameras?? Ah, exactly my firend There is no such thing as a perfect phone. What one has another doesn't. We can only choose from what is available and vote with our bucks.

I already know all this lol. I'm neither stupid or naive. All I said was not including a simple operation like VGA camera mode in such a high level camera phone is stupid, seen as every other manufacturer has done it for a long time.
It's like making a racing car that can top 200 mph but it's got the brakes from a Honda Jazz, it's just not the 'Range Topping' product they say it is! It' s a feature phone for goodness sake. It's main function is to be a high level camera phone.I don't really think asking for this option is requesting the ultimate all in one phone is it? It's just keeping up with the times!
And I would quite happily buy from Nokia by the way. I of course prefer the UI, but if it comes down to it, I would buy the phone that suits my needs the most. Style and looks have nothing to do with it for me thanks And I can't agree that make better quality cameras. The N82 is far better than 's CURRENT lineup. Maybe the C905 will be pleasant surprise who knows? For now however, it looks like I may move.

By the way, I was just thinking out loud my thoughts on the issue, I wasn't inferring you were stupid or niaive I hope you don't take it personally...

You say you prefer the SE UI, this to me is as important a factor in phone choice as specification. This is one of the main reasons I've not yet been tempted to consider any of the Nokia line up (the style is important to me but a distant third to spec and UI.)

The camera is a debateable point, one I won't go into here. I think to some degree it comes down to what a person wants in a camera and there is probably no definitive answer to which camera is best. In many ways, the K750 still offers the best camera (if you ignore megapixels), but realistically the recent 5MP cams from Nokia and SE are good enough to make the K750 cam obsolete.

On the question of vga recording, I think SE take the view that vga recording is still not good enough compared to handy cams to encourage users to be interested in vga vid recording in handsets. I tend to agree. While I am impressed by the N95 vga recording, it's still no where near the capability of even cheap handycams. It may have a fast framerate, but the video is pixelated, any detail smudges when there is any sort of movement at all, and colour is poor.

The number of people who will shun a device due to lack of vga recording is still very low.

Mostly video recordings will be displayed on the device itself - c905 has qvga display so the video recording is suitably matched to the device.

Really vga recording is not much use for anything other than onscreen display, atleast not that much better than qvga that it really matters. In my view people who claim it is are just jumping on the bigger is better bandwagon.

Now I know some people will legitimately wish to record video in vga, but these people are either a tiny percent of the market or their needs are too demanding even for the current vga capable devices. (My Canon sx100is VGA recording is FAR superior to the N95 vga recording.) I don't believe that vga recording is a driving force behind any of the devices that offer it.
