Played with the Nexus One, the competitor to the X10. First off, X10 is a lot prettier and I would say that the hardware is better. Now, the UI on the Nexus is similar to HTC Sense on Hero in terms of mechanics but more polished. It seemed like it was a retail unit because it was so damn fast. Its less eye candy than the X10 but for that reason it is much faster, it honestly runs like the HTC HD2 which you all know about. If X10 gets its UI properly fast, I think it should beat the Nexus but Nexus will be out sooner but its not complete i.e. the multi touch was not working (Android 2.1).

Its a real tough one but as a performance man, Nexus One because its so fast like the HD2 and me personally, am sick of poor software from (sorry). We should see everything showcased at MWC, X10 will be retail ready so we should wait till then for the proper battle. X10 is speeding up to be fair to but there is a lot of stuff on the net about the X10 in contrast to the mysterious Nexus One which makes it more interesting to know what else the phone can do.

SE suck at software engineering! Some people here would like to believe otherwise but it is what it is.

They have to price the X10 competitively to be able to make money out of it. It (X10) won't it easy at all.

I thought the nexus one was THE google phone with no customizations? Well, whateva.
And for those who think that SE have the worst software implementations, look at A200 and compare its competitors. An the person saying it has a p1 made and customized by SE. Gawd!!Anyways.

Here we go.

Se_dude

You really need to take off those blinds when it comes to SE.

The A200 platform wasn't born in 2009. Let me see, the K850i and the subsequent phones after that were rubbish software-wise. I am sure you know what I am talking about.

Yes, I have a P1 which is nothing but a revamped P990i. It is good because they ironed out the horror that was the P990i. Remember the P990i? The worst phone from SE that actually started the company's downward spiral. That phone needed countless software upgrades to properly function that by the time it became stable people had moved on and away from SE.

The P1 benefited from the mess created by its predecessor. Fast forward to 2009 and what do we have? The same SE with similar problems with a different phone named Satio.

Aahh, some things never change.

Speed does seem to be improving, well at least from that video... Hopefully SE can nail it this time (we live and hope eh?!)...

I'm with you on the performance over eye candy... Doesnt suprise me that it has a similar UI to HTC Sense, especially seeing as the hardware is HTC... I wonder if they have had input of the software side, or Google have just taken a good UI/Concept/Idea and improved upon it... If they have, very clever and astute of them - see how Android develops in the hands of others, then take the best of it and implement it into their own handset...

@Dups-You cant sit back and start screwing a company over a single phone again and agains.SE went down not because of their software but due to the lack of diversity in their hardware.they had nothing nnew to provide to people. They had bad quality control and their engineers were a bunch of lazy asses who found it hard to sit around oing bug fixes once a while. Now your accusations are something totally different. According to you, the platforms SE work on have pathetic implementation.Right from the A100 days to the revamped A200, SE have always been on top when concerning the dumbphone market. Even S60 what they did with UIQ and the satio are commendable.More with UIQ because it was one of a kind then and was way ahead of its time. The satio was the firs S60 by SE and in their ode t create a phone which would cater to the masses, they screwed u the software.
now since you are generalizing, what about Nokia? They keep S40 to the minimum which cant even multitask. They have had th N95 debacle which was only fixed with the 8gb. The n97 debacle which was fixed with the Mini and so on.

@se_dude
Let's clear this out, the A... platform is the best in the 'dumb' phone market, no other manufacturer can match it.

I have had a T610i and a K700i and know very well their limitations or software flaws. I still own a W890i which is an okay phone.

I still have a functioning P910i which when released was not smooth sailing after years of UIQ2. By your own admission, the lazy (I prefer inept) engineers over at SE rolled out a bug ridden P990i which effectively changed people's perceptions about SE's phones to this day. You say the dwindling sale were as a result of poor portfolio then how come they made healthy profits with the same limited portfolio until the P990i came along?

Satio being their first S60 phone means nothing much to me when they took eternity to work on it and it still came out flawed which only serves to reinforce how pathetic the engineers are.

Nokia (as much as I dislike them) are also bad but slightly better in that they react quickly and their support is longer lasting.

i think its fair to say every s60 touch phone released has been flawed on release. any one who argues that point is blind! so by your reasoning, all manufacturers must have 'pathetic engineers'!

@500>

Where did I say all manufacturers are pathetic? That is your reasoning.

One thing I don't expect is a perfect phone, not in this lifetime but the point here is a disturbing history of SE's screwing up time after time. Like I pointed out, they worked on the phone for almost a year and still had serious software problems that necessitated certain stores to stop selling them.

There's clearly something amiss in the software department over at SE.
