If SE would care about its customers... and if they wanted to make us a little Christmas Present... they would release the current FW that is floating on their Servers now.
Nobody can expect that this coming FW will be the wonderous and all-fixing solution. With SE it never is! But at least, we would get 'some' betterment and others could at least start talking about something else here. And if it only would be the 'next FW'.
If I remember correctly, SE technicians recieved the previous FW a few weeks before it was released. Also, remember, its xmas holiday season right now. If UIQ tech were working on another release, it would have to be sent through to SE technicians first. This means the FW thats been mentioned is what we are going to get in January.
The FW has been said to have, 17.5mb free 'after a fresh update'. Thats what I get on current FW after update. The menu is much faster thanks to no transitions. Some apps use a few kb less memory then before, which is good was also mentioned I think.
BUT...
Memory still leaks! Isn't this the URGENT issue!!! Why has SE not fixed this? Can they not do it???

Closing all open apps using Swiss Mgr only gave 15 MB back so the device still leaks memory.
After 3 months, it seems like SE has only manage to disable transitions and make some very minor changes to opera.

There is something with that 'Securityapp'. I restarted the phone, after startup killed sec.app and got 17mb RAM. After that I browsed internet a little via wifi, listened music etc. After closing applications in sw I got 15-15.3mb. Then I went to higher multitasking. Again music then rss-yahoo weather updated, opened weather link in opera, opened mySymbian in another window, opened inbox in messaging, wifi enabled and connected. RAM went to 2.2. After closing applications and memory reclaim in sw ( twice) I got 14.8mb. It looks like without secapp memory leak is reduced but that's off course far from proved.
Edit: After this post end again ending apps and recl.mem. I got 15.2mb RAM

@ Koto
Exactly that's what I was trying to say couple of pages back ... but I wanted you guys to try first
There is a big possibility that the securityapp is causing the memory leaks
I am still wondering what does the securityapp exactly do in the phone??

I believe the myth.
I believe that an upcoming firmware will catapult forward the current state of usability of the P990.
I believe such a development will blow the competition out of the water.
And I believe, despite every apparent physical malfunction of the P990 and unethical lack of response from SE, that the company knows what its doing.
Thank you.
p.s. I also believe in the Loch Ness monster. But we can ignore that for now.

Hi there....i got my p990i last month, as a gift from my husband & i am currently working here in seoul korea...unfortunately, i can't use the fone here in korea since they have a different system, so instead, i use the fone as a PDA, cam, music player & basically testing it out...in less than a month, i was able to do a master reset a couple of times, internal hard disk format a couple of times as well & even i have the latest firmware (R7) i still use the SE Update & still continue installing the latest firmware eventhough i already have it ( reflashing )...i use swiss manager pro too...few bugs i encountered & have some workarounds for it...
1. the kern error on contacts & some progs like messaging, web browsing is still bearable at the moment since i can't make calls & send messages (SMS) here in korea...hope it will be fixed soon
2. just recently, my media player can't play an mp3 for more than 2 minutes so i made a master reset as a work around & now it works...
3. when i read some documents & the screen goes off for a minute or two ( saver-mode) then when i click or tap my screen to have the backlight on again, the documents page is gone unless i highlight the blank page to reveal the charcters again...thar's weird for me...
4. i can't open up a document with 1000KB file, it says about memory error...still no workaround for that...
5. i was able to convert video files using jetaudio player & it's a nice tool so far with a user friendly interface (i tried super but i find it a little complicated)...BUT...i can't play MOVIES that i covert to the same settings that i use to convert smaller files like home videos from my pentax digi cam...the most video file i converted that played was about 30MB...i wish i can play movies like some of you here did...hmmmm...
6. you guys mentioned about some memory leakage & i do believe that i have the same prob since i see different RAM available on every reboots & after exiting same applications...
7. batterly level - i'm still experimenting what settings should i use since right now, i basically use it as PDA & multimedia...i still recharge it everyday & had it totally drained twice...when i get home (Philippines), by then i will be able to use all the features of the fone like calls, SMS, Video Calls, etc...
8. no problem with setting up the email/pop3 on gmail thru my wi-fi connection...
i was asked by my husband what fone i want for my birthday, since i really liked the n80, but since he has the same fone, i decided to have p990i so we'll know what we both can do with the fone since i am the "geeky" one when it comes to gadgets...
the wait for firmware is addicting...i check the forum a million times a day, before going to bed & soon as i wake up (lol)...
i tried windows vista from pre RC1 until the RTM/MSDN release & waiting for those build to come out & download them over the net was also addicting & since i love/addicted to reformatting my computer as often as i feel like doing it, i guess i will be doing the same thing with my p990i...maybe sony can hire me as a beta tester for their firmwares...hehehe...
my birthday was last 10th & i was hoping that SE will have the new firmware release as a present, hehehe, but it never happened...i just hope that the rumored january release will be a sure thing since i will be going home anytime next year & i don't want to experience frustrations when i get there...
i love the fone...i helped my friends set up their p800, p900, p910 i & finally i got my own now & it's p990i...i love it & we all know the potential the fone has...one more thing, too bad that it can only use the 802.11b & not the g range since most hotspots ( i believe) will be broadcasting g range...& eventhough some g range hotspots can broadcast both B & G, sometimes the default is set to G & the fone can scan it but won't be able to connect...too bad...
well, i guess that's it for now...let's just hope & pray for the latest frimware to satisfy most of our wishes for the P990i...let's enoy the agony of waiting...God speed everyone... Smile

I doubt the accuracy of the content. If I read correctly, the firmware supports Chinese and the latest organizer version is R2A05. As far as I know, the "Chinese" firmware always lag behind the "English only" firmware.
